4 A Day in the Life of Your Student

5 Morning Routine / Morning Meeting
Bell rings at 8:05… learning starts right away!! Lunch count / announcements Morning meeting starts at 8:20 to build teamwork and review behavior and curricular information

6 Daily Reading Starts at 8:20!
Starts with a short mini-lesson to demonstrate a strategy Students spend time reading to self, reading with someone, listening to reading, and working with words Concluded with a share or review of the skill that was taught

7 Word Study 10-12 spelling words every week to match a target skill
Based on Rochester Schools second grade spelling lists as well as researched based phonics skills Tested on Friday in dictated sentences

8 Writing Workshop Short mini-lesson to model / teach writing strategies
Students write independently Independent conferences and/or small strategy groups Concluded with review

9 Recess / Lunch 10:50-11:30

18 Your student’s birthday is a very special day
Your student’s birthday is a very special day! We would like to make it special at school by inviting them to bring a book from home for all their classmates to sign. (They will bring the book back home with them). We will sing Happy Birthday and allow your child to be our line leader and helper for their special day. Please note that no food birthday treats will be permitted at Hamlin. If your child wishes to pass something out they may pass out a small item to classmates such as a pencil, eraser, sticker, etc...

27 Hamlin Offers Free and Reduced Lunch For Qualifying Families
Who can get free or reduced meals? Children can get free meals if your gross household income is within the free limits of the federal income guidelines. Children in households receiving Food Assistance Program (FAP), Family Independence Program(FIP), or Food Distribution on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), children in foster care, homeless children and migrant children can get free meals regardless of income. Just one application for all students in your household. If your child’s application was approved last year, you must complete and send in a new application unless the school has told you that your child is eligible for the new school year. Assistance to complete the form is available. Please contact: Learning Consultant, Mrs. Gress ESL Consultant, Mrs. Woodberg Families can opt to keep all information on the form confidential and not shared for further services Qualifying for free and reduced lunch may also allow the child to receive other free services such as: before and after school child care, field trips if applicable, Blessings in a Backpack, athletics, club/co-curricular, Rochester Area Youth Assistance, etc. Applications available in a variety of languages.
