1 CONTRACTIONS Sometimes we want to make words shorter and easier to write. Even more often, we want to speak less, by making words shorter. We’ve learnt about abbreviations, now it’s contractions. You already know how to shorten “will” to “’ll”. Most times, you remove vowels (a, e, i, o, u) when you combine the words together. Sometimes you have many choices, but you cannot combine more than two words together, so choose carefully (ex. YOU + ARE + NOT = YOU’RE NOT or YOU AREN’T not YOU’REN’T)

2 You cannot combine more than two words together.
CONTRACTIONS You cannot combine more than two words together. WORDS CONTRACTION IT + IS I + AM DID + NOT YOU + ARE HAD + NOT THEY + ARE COULD + NOT WE + WILL IT’S I’M DIDN’T YOU’RE HADN’T THEY’RE COULDN’T WE’LL BE (‘m, ‘re, ‘s), WILL (‘ll), WOULD (‘d), HAVE (‘ve), HAD (‘d), NOT (n’t)

3 CONTRACTIONS You cannot have more than one negative in a sentence.
If you do, you’ll end up with a positive sentence, again. I have lasagna. I don’t have lasagna. I never don’t have lasagna. I always have lasagna.

4 OR CONTRACTIONS CONTRACTION NEGATIVE WORD
You cannot have more than one negative in a sentence. CONTRACTION NEGATIVE WORD You haven’t ever told… I don’t know anything… He didn’t win any prize. We aren’t with anybody… Isn’t anyone… They aren’t anywhere… You have never told… I know nothing… He won no prizes. We are with nobody… Is no one… They are nowhere… OR
