2 Q.1 what do you understand by Gyroscopic Couple ? Derive it’s formula.
Ans. The torque required to produce the acceleration is called Gyroscopic torque and is a couple which must be applied to axis of spin to cause it to rotate. 4 Q.2 Define the following. (a) Axis of spin : The axis about which the disc or matter rotate and wheel motion is not resisted by Gyroscopic couple axis of spin. (b) Gyroscopic effect : The effect of |gyroscopic couple on a body is called gyroscopic effect on body. (c) Axis of precision : the axis about which it he axis of spin rotates is called axis of precision.

5 Q.3 State the right-hand screw rule to draw vector diagram to represent angular acceleration and angular momentum of body. Ans. It sates that “If screw is rotated in fixed nut, and if it is rotated in clock-wise direction viewing by observer, it goes away from observer and if it is rotated in anti-clockwise direction viewing by observer, it comes comes towards the observer. It is mainly used to determine direction of angular acceleration and angular momentum of rotating body.

7 Q.4 Describe Right-hand thumb rule to show direction of applied sample and change in angular momentum. Ans. To determine direction of spin, precision and torque couple vector right hand thumb rule is used. According to this, if figure represent the rotation of disc and the thumb show in future.  Method : Consider a rotor rotating in anti-clock wise direction when seen from right and to process the spin about precision axis in clockwise and anti-clockwise direction when top to determine the active / reactive gyroscope couple vector the following procedure is used.

8 (1) Turn the spin vector through 90 in the direction when seen from top of the precision on the 2nd plane. (2) The turned spin vector will then corresponding to the di5rection of active gyroscope couple vector. (3) The reactive gyroscopic couple vector is taken opposite to active gyroscopic couple vector direction.
