1 Electron Microscope Dr. Laxmi Kant Pandey

2 Introduction An electron microscope is a microscope that uses a beam of accelerated electrons (From tungsten filament) as a source of illumination. As the wavelength of an electron can be up to 100,000 times shorter than that of visible light, electron microscopes have a higher resolving power than light microscopes and can reveal the structure of smaller objects.

3 electron microscopes use electromagnetic lenses to control the electron beam and focus it to form an image. Electron microscopes are used to investigate the ultrastructure of a wide range of biological and inorganic specimens including microorganisms, cells, large molecules, biopsy samples, metals, and crystals. Modern electron microscopes produce electron micrographs using specialized digital cameras.

5 Types TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope)
SEM (Scanning electron Microscope)

6 High voltage Phosphor Zinc Sulphide

8 Application: Topography Particle analysis Particle detection
Protein localization Structural biology Virology (e.g. viral load monitoring

10 high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) has allowed the production of images with resolution below 0.5 angstrom (50 picometres)[1] and magnifications above 50 million times.[10] The ability to determine the positions of atoms within materials has made the HRTEM an important tool for nano-technologies research and development
