The Bohr Diagram gives the entire structure of the Atom
Bohr Diagram Basics The Bohr Diagram gives the entire structure of the Atom

Bohr Diagram It gives the entire structure of the atom Protons
Located in Nucleus Neutrons Electrons Located in Energy Levels around Nucleus

Bohr Diagram Step 1: Find the atomic number ,atomic mass (rounded), protons, neutrons and electrons for the element your are working with.

Bohr Diagram Chlorine (Cl) Atomic Number 17 Number of protons 17 Number of neutrons 19 Number of electrons 17 Atomic Mass (rounded) 36

Bohr Diagram Step 2: Draw a circle that represents the nucleus of the Atom and place the letters P and N inside the nucleus.

Bohr Diagram Step 2: Draw the Nucleus

Bohr Diagram Step 3: Place a P and N inside the circle P N

Bohr Diagram Step 3: write the number of protons beside the letter P and the number of neutrons beside the letter N.

Bohr Diagram Step 4: Write beside the P number of Protons the element has and beside the N the number of Neutron the element has in the nucleus P N 17 19

Bohr Diagram Step 4: Draw the first energy shell for the electrons around the nucleus and place the number of electrons into the shell using the formula 2(n)2 where n is the electron shell number.

Bohr Diagram Step 5: Draw 1st Energy Level for electrons
Calculate how many will fit on first energy shell by using the formula 2(n )2. Lets calculate this information.

Bohr Diagram Step 5: Continue to draw electron shells and use the formula 2(n)2 until all electron shells are filled with the correct numbers of electrons.

Bohr Diagram Step 5: Continued P N 17 19

Bohr Diagram Step 6: Did you use all the electrons. If the answer is yes then you are finished, but in the example the answer is no. So we need to use the formula and calculate for the 2nd Energy Level.

Bohr Diagram Step 6: Continued P 17 N 19

Bohr Diagram Step 7: Did you use all the electrons. If the answer is yes then you are finished, but in the example the answer is no. So we need to use the formula and calculate for the 3rd Energy Level.

Bohr Diagram Step 7: Continued P N 17 19

Bohr Diagram Step 8: Did you use all the electrons. If the answer is yes then you are finished.

Now you will try Copper(Cu)
Bohr Diagram Now you will try Copper(Cu)

Copper(Cu) Atomic Number 29 Protons 29 Electrons 29 Neutrons 35
Atomic Mass 64

Copper(Cu) P N 29 35

Lewis Dot Structure Step 1:Calculate the valance electrons for your element. Step 2: Write the chemical symbol for your element. Na

Lewis Dot Structure Step 3: Start on the right side and place the electrons around the symbol in pairs of two going clockwise. Na

Lewis Dot Structure Now you try Chlorine Step 1: 7 Step 2 : Step 3: Cl
