Get into your 4 person groups
Just like your passage packets, we will be discussing the LotF. Take out your books and remove everything else from your desk. In your groups, discuss each annotation objective on the next slide. Focus on the symbolic meaning present in the book. See you if can find the exposition and the rising action. Share your interpretations. Whatever you do not complete in your group must be completed at home.

Chapter 7: Shadows and Tall Trees
The chapter begins with Ralph in self-reflection of his appearance. This leads him to several realizations. On pages , annotate key descriptions and comparisons about Ralph and the boys' appearance. In the margins, state the significance of Ralph's epiphany on page 110. On pages , Ralph takes part in his first pig hunt. Highlight details that display the changes in his behavior. In the margins, note the significance of these changes. On a post-it note, compose a statement about why you believe Golding included Ralph in this hunt and showed the reader his reactions. On pages , Ralph, Jack, and Roger venture to the top of the mountain to look for the beast. Annotate details that contribute to the mood of the expedition. At the end of the chapter, compose your thoughts about (a) what the boys found and (b) why Golding chose to let Jack "win" and continue the search at night.

Chapter 8: Gift for the Darkness
Annotate the confrontation between Ralph and Jack on pages On a post-it, summarize their points and summarize how the meeting ends. On pages , Simon is “confronted” by “The Lord of the Flies.” Record your interpretations and analysis of this episode, including symbolism/personification. On pages , Simon now engages in a “dialogue” with “The Lord of the Flies.” Continue your annotations from the previous objective. In the space at the bottom of p. 144, summarize your interpretations and observations of these two interactions between Simon and “The Lord of the Flies.” This is clearly a critical point in the novel. We will discuss this chapter in class.

Coat of Arms Project Take a piece of white paper and draw a shield.
Draw 3 symbols that represent you and your life goals. At the bottom of the shield, write a family motto. This can be a sentence that describes you or your beliefs. On the back, List and label each of your symbols and their meaning. Make sure you write your name on the back.
