“To justify his actions, Eddie creates an alternative reality to exist within.” Using evidence from the play show to what extent you agree or disagree with this statement.
At the start of the play Eddie tells the story of a young boy who ‘ratted’ on immigrant relatives staying in his home, so Eddie knows full well the fate he will suffer if he betrays Marco and Rodolpho, yet he still informed on them to the Immigration Authorities. Discuss and explore how and why Eddie is driven to such a betrayal.
Is Eddie a sympathetic hero? In your answer discuss the elements of the play that allow the audience to sympathize with or despise Eddie.

2. Discuss the relationship between Beatrice, Eddie and Catherine and explain how what seems to be a loving family unit at the start of the play evolves into one characterized by betrayal and hatred.
As you are only allowed to submit one empathy assignment. if you did not write as Slim, for the Of Mice & Men assignment, then you could write Catherin’s or Marco’ Diary entries for this time period.
If you are writing as Marco then you can start your diary entry when you say goodbye to your wife and family in Italy. The sea voyage would have taken two weeks. You can describe the voyge if you want but don’t spend to much time doing this.
If you are writing as Catherine you can start your diary entry by describing what happened when the Principal calling you out of class to offer you the stenography job.
