5 Scope of Ecma TC38 http://www.ecma-international.org/memento/TC38.HTM
Geographically Globally applicable standards for a globally acting industry Product-wise Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Consumer Electronic (CE) products Issue-wise Develop, promote and maintain Ecma Standards covering product-related environmental attributes. Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F:

6 Principles of Ecma TC38 Accessible Provide industry direct access to standardization projects. - Organizations only need to be Ecma member and can then delegate persons to TC38. Fast Ensure fast standards development by slim structure (industry committee only / no national committees). Supportive and Tailored Develop standards which help industry to respond to global market and legal requirements. Harmonized Harmonize requirements globally by: setting global industry standards delivering standards for fast track to IEC and/or ISO international standardization commenting on other standard developments using our liaisons with other standardization bodies Transparent Share developments and standards at no cost. 7 Ecma TC38 Standards Status and plans
ECMA-341 (Environmental Conscious Design) 3rd edition, June 2008 base for and equivalent to IEC 62075, 4th edition in 2010 ECMA-328 (Chemical Emissions) 4th edition, December 2009, 5th edition in rd edition fast tracked to ISO/IEC as ISO/IEC 28360 ECMA-383 (Energy Consumption) 2nd edition / December 2009, 3rd edition in 2010 ECMA-393 (proxZzzy™ for sleeping hosts) 1st edition / February 2010. ECMA-370 (Eco-declaration) 4th edition / June 2009, 5th edition in 2010 Some edions Japanese editions available Some edions Japanese editions available Start with ECD and then tell we need measurment standards and finally the declaration is used as a communication tool, to which 341 refers to all of them and so does the communication tool. 8 CONTENT ECD standard ECMA-341
The standard ECMA-341 “Environmental design considerations for ICT & CE products” was globally the first available eco-design standard for this product sector and became the base for the IEC standard. The 3rd edition is equivalent to IEC It identifies design practices for the following product attributes throughout its life cycle: Energy efficiency Material efficiency Consumables and batteries Chemical and noise emissions Extension of product lifetime End of life considerations Substances and preparations needing special attention Product packaging Documentation Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F:

9 ongoing ECD standard ECMA-341
ECMA-341 4th edition plans to integrate latest developments such as Align with terms in IEC 62542 Align with ECD standard IEC 62430 EU EuP/ErP Implementing Measures REACH article requirements for declaring substances Align with Energy consumption (ECMA-383) other global developments in 2010 for proposal to IEC TC108 WG Environment. Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F:

10 Chemical emission standard ECMA-328
contents This Standard specifies methods to determine chemical emission rates from ICT & CE equipment during intended operation in an Emission Test Chamber. The methods comprise preparation, sampling (or monitoring) in a controlled Emission Test Chamber, storage and analysis, calculation and reporting of emission rates. The Standard includes specific methods for equipment using consumables, such as printers, and equipment not using consumables, such as PC’s and Consumer Electronics. The Standard includes test criteria of RAL UZ 122 (Blue Angel) for office devices with printing function Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F:

11 Chemical emission standard ECMA-328
Fast tracked of chemical emissions standard ECMA-328 via ISO/IEC JTC 1/ SC 28 as ISO/IEC 28360:2007. 4th edition of December 2009 fixes some errata/typos that SC 28 discovered Ecma TC38 TG1 plans to update ECMA-328 with measurement methods for Ultra Fine Particles in 2010. ISO/IEC JTC 1 ongoing ECMA-328 ISO/IEC 28360 4th edition I SO and IEC approved and published Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F: 11

12 contents ECMA-383 2nd edition
Objective To provide one global test methodology for the measurement of energy consumption of computing products (initially desktop and notebook computers) that can be used for any national or international regulation or voluntary agreements. Scope of Standard Test methodology for measurement of energy consumption in any or all power modes e.g. Off, standby, short idle, long idle and active. Methodology for assessing annual energy consumption. System of categorisation to enable like for like comparisons Registration procedure for categories A minimum requirement for results reporting 2nd edition approved at GA in December 2009. Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F:

13 Energy Efficiency standard ECMA-383
Ecma is cooperating with IEC TC108 WG environment for IEC version of the standard This will be IEC 62623, Committee Draft expected early 2010, and IEC Standard in 2011. In time for updated version of ENERGY STAR® for notebooks and Desktops In time for the implementing measure of EU's ErP directive (Lot 3, PC's) Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F: 13

17 TED - The Eco Declaration ECMA-370
To facilitate answering of frequent questions on compliance with legal and market requirements in Green Public and Private Procurement, ICT and CE experts started development of ECMA TR/70 in 1995. After harmonisation in 2002 with the IT Eco Declaration into ECMA-370, THE ECO DECLARATION - TED” provides standardised templates for: Company Environmental Profile; Product Environmental Attributes; and a procedure for verification of claims. Still mention IT-F? Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F: 17

18 Eco-declaration standard ECMA-370
The 4th Edition, June 2009, Environmental Product Declarations standard ECMA-370 addresses: changes in legal (such as or REACH article 33 information requirement) adjustment to latest versions of ENERGY STAR® and market requirements The 5th edition will address: needs for regional declarations relevant developments in IEEE 1680 (that is the base for EPEAT) EU EuP/ErP Implementing Measures ongoing Rue du Rhône CH-1204 Geneva - T: F:

19 Smart Data Centres scope Monitoring and control messages to reduce (IT and facility) resources’ use of energy in data centers . Messages in DMTF’s CIM format The management functions, resources and communication protocols that exchange the messages to optimise the IT and facility resources in Smart Data Centres are out of scope.
