8 Extended Specials We will have extended Specials every Monday from 8:10-9:30 The first day of school students will attend specials but will not do P.E. activities. They will be going over rules and procedures.

9 Fruit/Snack Break *Your child may bring a snack for the morning and afternoon (optional). The students will work while they have snack (instruction does not stop for snack time). *Please only bring healthy snacks and avoid sending snacks that are messy with juices. (**Examples of healthy snacks: apples, bananas, oranges, crackers, granola bars, etc.) *If parents would like to donate to the class, goldfish or saltine crackers would be the easiest on the teachers and students.

10 Morning Arrival First Day of School -
Doors open at 7:30, parents are welcome to come with their child Students will go straight to their classrooms All other days - Doors open at 7:30, all students enter through the cafeteria/gym doors Students arriving prior to 7:50 will wait with their grade level in the gym At 7:50, each grade level will begin leaving the gym to head to their classrooms. The front door open at 7:55 (for student entry). If your child arrives before this time, they must enter through the gym/cafeteria doors. School begins at 8:05, please make every effort to be here on time.

11 Morning Drop Off - 2 Areas
Circular drive on Upper Lake This is drop off only….please stop, drop, and go If you need to go inside, please park in the large parking lot Large Parking Lot on Oak Briar Cones are set up to allow parents to drop off and then proceed through the first parking row to exit Only buses are allowed through to the front row Students will walk up the sidewalk to enter through the cafeteria doors if before 7:55. Please do not drop off your child further along to walk through parked cars. This is very dangerous.

12 Dismissal Procedures Bike riders - dismissed at 3:20
Walkers (east/west) - dismissed at 3:25 East (Upper Lake and Oak Briar) East (Oak Briar and Ancient Oak) West (Upper Lake to Pioneer) Do not park on Oak Briar...there are no sidewalks so students have to bike or walk around you...very dangerious Do not park on upper lake to pick up walkers….if you are going to wait for your child in the walker area, please park on the side streets. Do not park on Caroling Oaks...students are released at Pioneer so you must be passed Pioneer to wait for your student Car Riders - dismissed at 3:30 After a couple of weeks, the line moves quickly and finished around 3:45. Please make sure you are there at this time. You may not walk up to pick up your child from the car rider line.

13 Change in Dismissal Please make sure you fill out the form on how your child will be getting home and give to the teacher today To change the way your child is dismissed, you must send or fax signed written notice to the teacher s will be accepted as long as they include a contact number that we can verify You may also call the front office and the front office will take the information and then inform the teacher at 2:30.

14 Rainy Day Dismissal Policy
If it is raining (light or heavy), thundering/lightning we will make the decision for a rainy day dismissal around 3:00. If a rainy day dismissal is decided, we will post it on our website. This means that all students (bikers and walkers) will report to the gym where they may be picked up through the car rider line. After car riders are dismissed, any bikers or walkers that are remaining will be dismissed if the rain/thunder/lightning has subsided. Please note that these students may be home 30 minutes later than their usual arrival time since car riders are dismissed first.” Posted on our website

15 Rainy Day Dismissal cont...
Once a rainy day dismissal is posted on the website, it will remain such even if the rain stops or the storm has moved through Parents may have already made various arrangements due to our posting We will send an /text but remember that if all schools are using the system it could take up to 30 minutes before the /text gets to you so website is always the best place.

16 Absences/Tardy To report an absence, call the absent line at Attendance report time is 9:35 for this year. Please work all appointments around this time. Students are tardy if they arrive after 8:05

17 Oaks Communication Each grade level sends out ( and/or hard copy) a newsletter every Tuesday letting you know of the week’s activities within that grade level. Check websites for information HOOT Scoop - School-wide newsletter is sent out every other week on Tuesdays. A hard copy is sent home as well as an to all families who have an address in our database.

19 Dress Code Not allowed Tennis shoes must be worn for PE
Short shorts, mini skirts, halter tops, spaghetti straps, low cut or midriff shirts, inappropriate decorations or advertisements on shirts Tennis shoes must be worn for PE To play on playground equipment students must have tennis shoes or shoes with a back

20 Early Release Days School ends at 12:00….
**Dates are always listed in the Hoot Scoop and reminders will be ed/texted before each date**

21 Birthday Treats Treats may be provided if they are store bought
Remember, some children may have food alleregies so check with the teacher Birthday treats may not disrupt the educational environment and it is up to the teacher on when the treat is given to the students Birthday invitations may not be distributed at school per district policy (even if you are inviting the whole class) Ice cream may be purchased from the cafeteria and eaten during the student’s lunch period...call (cafeteria manager).

22 AVID Advancement via Individual Determination
Oaks is an AVID school, the only elementary school in the district It is a College Preparatory program Strategies and skills are taught that will be carried into TMS and AHS Organization skills Note-taking strategies Goal setting

23 Student Data Folders Students will be creating their own learning goals and charting progress throughout the year Students will be leading parent/teacher conferences to share with you their progress This helps to foster independence and responsibility for their own learning

25 Istation Istation is one of our assessment tools for reading
We use results to assist in forming reading groups, looking at students who need intervention, ect…. It’s important students do well within Istation and take it seriously when they assess It’s not just a place for students to play games Parents have access to do it at home Passwords will be sent in the Tuesday folder in a couple of weeks

*In our class students will earn hoot tickets to spend in the school store or classroom reward menu. *Students will earn whole class thumbs up parties.

Blue - Outstanding choices Green - Good choices Yellow - warning about choices (teachers will write in student’s binder) Orange- Note in binder and sit out of specific activity. Red - Note in daily binder, phone call, or office referral

29 Why Try Districts Bully Prevention Program
Lessons are taught by classroom teachers every other week Poster and references regarding taught lessons are referred to daily

30 Oaks Annual Fund Oaks has moved to an Annual Fund versus a sales-based fundraiser Parent surveys showed that parents would rather donate money then sell items Giving Levels...various benefits your family receives when you, family members, relatives donate Handout - all the things purchased an accomplished last year with donations
