Mrs. Selena”s Class St. Pauls High School School Year HEALTH SCIENCE II Class Rules and Expectations Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Complete all of your work and turn it in on time. . Be in your seat, prepared and working when the bell rings Respect the teacher, the class and other students No electronics allowed in the classroom (no cell phones, Ipod, etc) No talking when the teacher is talking Bring all materials to class everyday Follow all school rules and procedures Make smart choices Welcome to Mrs. Selena Locklear’s class. I have been a nurse for 14 years working in a variety of areas before coming to the Public Schools of Robeson County. I am very excited to be your Health Team Science II teacher and hope each and every one of you have a successful year. I have high expectations and challenge you to do your best at all times. Course Description This course is designed to help students expand their understanding of financing and trends of health care agencies, fundamentals of wellness, legal and ethical issues, concepts of teamwork, and effective communication. Students will learn health care skills, including current CPR and first aid training. English language arts and science are reinforced in this course. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include internship, mentorship, service learning, and job shadowing. Topics of this course: Understand healthcare Foundations Standards                       Understand Safety and Infection Control Procedures Understand Health Science Standards Apply procedures to provide basic emergency care What are the consequences if I don’t follow class rules? 1st offense – verbal warning 2nd offense- teacher-student conference 3rd offense - detention and telephone contact to parent 4th offense- referral to principal or appropriate administration If deemed necessary I reserve the right to skip any level of consequence STUDENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO LEARN, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO TEACH. What happens if I turn in an assignment late? Grade Scale Assignments are due as soon as possible. You will only be allowed 5 days to make up any missed work. This does not mean you have 5 days to ask for the work. If it is not completed and received within 5 days you will receive a zero. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me. A 100-90 D 69-60 B 89-80 F 59- below C 79-70 What do I do if I am absent? If you are absent it is your responsibility to check the What You Missed Folder at the student center board to review the missed assignment and also to clarify with me or a classmate. It is also your responsibility to sign the missed work log sheet on the student center table which verifies you received the missed work. Grade Breakdown Test/Projects = 40% Homework = 20% Quizzes = 15% Class Participation= 15% Portfolio- 10% Health Science II students will be required to wear a solid color medical uniform. The uniform will be worn Wednesday of each week (WEAR SCRUBS WEDNESDAY). This will account for a percentage of the participation grade for the class. The students enrolled in this course are aspiring to have a career in a healthcare related area, therefore this will help them become acclimated to the requirements of those professions. Students will begin wearing the uniforms on October 5, I will give students suggestions wear very affordable uniforms can be purchased. Supplies One marble or 3 subject notebook Index Cards Pencils Mechanical are allowed but wood pencil are also required Color pencils or markers Glue stick or tape or both Plastic or paper sticky tabs What is an Interactive Student Notebook? The Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) is a portfolio of student work. The notebook is organized in a left-side and right-side format. Every right-side of the notebook will house teacher directed notes / activities, while left-side assignments will showcase student understanding of right-side material in a creative and unique manner. A college-ruled composition book will be used for the ISN. . The majority of classwork, notes, study guides, AND vocabulary, will be completed in the ISN, so it is imperative that it be complete and up to date. Phone & ext 2
