Key Routines The bell rings at 8.55 a.m. Children line up on the ramp. Class 4 nearest the window. Register, fruit snack, lunchtime and afternoon play will continue as in Foundation. Collection at the end of the day is similar to Foundation. We will not let the children leave until you are there to collect them. Please inform the class teacher if someone different is to collect your child.

5 General Expectations PARENTS/CARERS: should meet their children in the playground, not at the classroom door. should make sure their child arrives at school on time. should contact the school explaining any absences. should arrange to speak to teachers at a convenient time i.e. at the end of the school day. Communication is very important and do make an appointment if you need to speak to us.

6 Behaviour All children will begin each day under the sun.
Unacceptable behaviour = Warning Further unacceptable behaviour = Child moves name to the cloudy sun. If the unacceptable behaviour continues = Child moves name to the rain cloud. At this stage, children will have time out on a thinking spot.

8 Curriculum In Key Stage One children begin their study of the National Curriculum. This consists of core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Computing. Foundation subjects are also taught including History, Geography, Music, PE, Design Technology, Art and Personal, Social and Health education. RE is taught according to a locally agreed syllabus. In Y1 the curriculum is organised through a ‘topic based’ approach which incorporates the key skills set out in the National Curriculum.

9 P.E. P.E. is on a Tuesday and a Wednesday/Thursday.
Children should have kits with them all week. Outdoor and indoor PE kits are required. Children are not allowed to wear jewellery and should tie their hair back. Uniforms need to be labelled to avoid confusion.

10 Children will also be given weekly spellings starting from half term.
Homework Homework is given out on a Thursday to be completed and returned the following Tuesday. This could be literacy, maths or a practical activity. Children will also be given weekly spellings starting from half term. Reading at home is expected on a daily basis. Reading books will be changed twice a week so please ensure books are brought to school as necessary – Tuesdays and Fridays. The children will continue to have reading diaries.

Show your child that school work is important. Encourage your child to be responsible for his/her behaviour and belongings. We would also welcome help at school, if you have any free time and would be willing to help out in class eg. reading, please let us know.
