INTRODUCTION Final Year Project / FYP / PSM
A course that must be completed by final year students as a requirement to receive the bachelor of engineering degree. two semesters to work on a task that is related to a student’s field of interest. students are expected to do their work independently most of the time, but their progress will be monitored closely by their supervisors. students will have to document their work in a thesis which must be hard bounded and submitted to the Faculty

INTRODUCTION Final Year Project Aim
The aim of the FYP is to give students opportunity to apply the knowledge that they have gained while studying in FKBSK to solve practical biomedical engineering problems. By doing so, it is hoped that the students will gain knowledge and experience in solving problems systematically thus when they graduate, they will be ready to work as reliable and productive engineers.

INTRODUCTION FYP Objective should be able to:-
At the end of the Final Year Project (FYP), students should be able to:- 1. Articulate and utilize academic and practical experiences in carrying out engineering projects. 2. Think objectively, analytically and critically when looking at an engineering problem and be able to solve it systematically. 3. Perform relevant work independently when working in a project. 4. Convey their findings and ideas.

FYP DISTRIBUTION Student – Supervisor Distribution
Student must be supervised by a Lecturer from FKBSK as main supervisor. Student can be cosupervised by a Lecturer or a Tutor or a Research Officer from FKBSK or Lecturers from other faculty or other university. The distribution will be based on: student interest and lecturer availability. Student can propose a project title or choose an interest project title provided by supervisors. Own project title is allowed after student assigned to a supervisor. Project title will distributed by FYP coordinator after FYP committee meeting.

FYP DISTRIBUTION Student – Supervisor Distribution
The main supervisor is determined by FYP meeting. Cosupervisor is determined by student or main supervisor. Student needs to fill up the online FYP title registration in FKBSK website with choosing 3 FYP titles according to priority. The online system will be opened today at 05 pm. Student also needs to fill up the FYP 1-0 form and give the FYP coordinator by 19 Sep 2011, before 09 am. Student-Supervisor distribution will be announced on 20 September 2011 in FKBSK website. Student should meet with supervisor on 21 Sep 2011.

FYP DISTRIBUTION The main supervisor will be same for FYP1 and FYP2.
Students may change their title with approval from the main supervisor at latest before FYP proposal submission. The changing of FYP title after FYP proposal submission must have approval from FYP coordinator. The changing of supervisor must have approval from FYP meeting, and must be done before FYP proposal submission.

FYP REGULATION REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT PASS REQUIREMENT
Students must have completed at least 90 credits of other courses. FYP 1 (SEB 4812) and FYP 2 (SEB 4824) registration must be done in 2 consecutive semesters. No “rest” semester is allowed. PASS REQUIREMENT Students must meet with supervisor minimum 7 times in one semester. Student should follow the regulation for implementation and grading scheme of FYP. Students need to have grade C (mark=50) to pass the FYP.

FYP IMPLEMENTATION FYP1 Seminar
This seminar gives the student an opportunity to give an introduction of their work and present their progress to other staff members in their department. This allows the students to receive initial feedback from other lecturers in terms of the appropriateness of their work for the FYP. This will help them to identify problems that they might encounter at a later stage of the project and possible solutions as suggested by the seminar panel members. Before attending the seminar, students must fill in the appropriate sections in Form FYP 1-3 and bring it along on the day of the seminar to be given to all of the seminar panel members. This means that the students must make appropriate copies of this form depending on the number of persons in the panel.

FYP IMPLEMENTATION FYP1 Seminar
In the seminar, students are required to present their FYP problem statement, objectives, project scope, methodology, literature review, and preliminary result to a panel of evaluators. The seminar panel members will test the students on matters related to the project. In the seminar, students need to give an overall view of the FYP and the findings or results that have been obtained. Among the relevant things to include in the presentation are: Problem background, objective and scope Methodology and project plan Literature review Design / Simulation / Characterization / Measurement / Implementation Preliminary test and result analysis Conclusions and further works.

FYP IMPLEMENTATION FYP2 Seminar and Demonstration
The panel of evaluators has the right to give a ceiling grade to the student if the student did not achieve a certain performance level. After the presentation, the students must demonstrate their project outcome or product to the panel of evaluators. Students are required to distribute the Seminar Form (FYP 2-4) to the panel of evaluators before the beginning of the seminar. Appropriate sections in the form (ex. Name, project title) must be filled in first before handing in the form to the panel members.

FYP IMPLEMENTATION FYP2 Seminar and Demonstration
In the seminar, students are required to present their FYP final report. Among the relevant content to include in the presentation are: Introduction Methodology Literature review Design and Implementation Test result and analysis Conclusion and recommendation.

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP LOG BOOK
The FYP Log Book is an important document that must be completed by all FYP students. All the necessary forms used for grading is contained in the log book. The progress evaluation marks given by supervisors will partially be based on what students write in their log books. Students are required to record their daily / weekly activities and write a short log to summarize their findings or accomplishments every week.

All relevant findings and activities must be recorded weekly and then showed to their supervisors to be graded weekly. Among the relevant information to be recorded include: project title, objectives, scope and work plan project progress project preparation, problems and suggested solutions relevant references from journals, websites, books etc. equipment used including circuit or schematic diagrams suggestions, assignment and discussions results from supervisors summary of any relevant work that has been done The students' logs as recorded in their log book represent the state of the completion of the FYP. Supervisors are required to verify and grade the log entries at every student-supervisor meetings.

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP LOG BOOK
Students are required to write clearly and honestly all activities performed and then to summarize their work every week. This is essential since part of the final marks received by the students on their FYP will be based on what they have recorded in this log book. It recommended that signatures of relevant persons meet when conducting project activities be recorded in the log book.

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP FILE Suggestion:
Students are highly encouraged to maintain a separate file or folder to compile all their findings/sketches/printouts/ datasheets as a complement to the log book. This can be used as evidence to support the claims as written in the logbook. Suggestion: Always bring FYP Log Book and File when meeting your supervisor!

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP Proposal
At the required date, students must submit their Project Proposal which consists of : the proposed project title, abstract, problem background, objective, scope for FYP1 and FYP2, methodology, gannt chart, milestone, literature review, and alternative solutions (design), requirement (equipment, tool, software, data), expected output, conclusion, reference and any other relevant project information. The project proposal must be typed using the IEEE template provided in the FYP website. Project proposal and Project Proposal Form (FYP 1-1) must be submitted to supervisor/s. All FYP 1-1 forms must be verified by project supervisors.

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP 1 Report
At the end of semester (normally week 13), students must submit their project report which will contain a project proposal summary / abstract, introduction, methodology, literature review, a report of all the work that they have done for the semester (i.e. data gathering, review, investigation, survey, design, implementation, preliminary testing, test result and analysis), a complete work plan for the second part of the FYP (gannt chart, milestone, detail activity, detail requirement, detail expected output), conclusion and references. At the front page of the report, students must attach FYP 1-5 form for the supervisors to complete.

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP Thesis
At a required date (end of the semester), students need to submit a draft of the project thesis to their supervisors. The final draft must be loosely bound (ex. using spiral binding). In the first page of the draft, the Thesis Evaluation Form (FYP 2-5) must be attached. After the draft has been corrected/marked by the project supervisor, students must take the draft and make all the required amendments before making a hard bound version of the thesis. Students are required to show the corrected version of their drafts to their supervisors, before sending it to be bounded. The FYP thesis must follow all of UTM thesis formatting rules and regulations. Students must submit 2 hard bounded theses and 2 soft copy of the thesis in compact disc to the main office.

FYP DOCUMENTATION FYP Paper
Students are required to write a summary of thesis in the 4 or more pages IEEE format paper. The paper must be submitted to Supervisor in parallel with thesis submission. After correction from supervisor, students need to improve the quality of paper before final submission. The FYP paper must be attached in the FYP thesis.
