between 1600 and 1700 is often referred to as A Period of Enlightenment or The Age of Reason.

Isaac Newton – light and the spectrum Carl von Linne – organized science Samuel Johnson – Encyclopedia Britannica Thomas Paine – “Rights of Man” Mary Wollstonecraft -"A Vindication of the Rights of Women“ John Locke-authority of government comes only from the consent of the governed= Freedom The Enlightenment valued freedom for the common people, self governance, and natural rights with the central emphasis on liberty.
