5 Marking the Text As you listen to the last part of JFK’s speech follow along with the text and do the following: Circle key words/phrases Underline President Kennedy’s claims

6 JFK’s Moon Speech (re-cap)
It was delivered on September 12, 1962, one year before JFK was assassinated. It laid out the plan for space exploration and the journey to the moon, which would happen seven years later. During this time, the United States was also involved in the Civil Rights movement, the Cold War with the USSR, and the Vietnam War.

7 At the time… Some historical experts felt President Kennedy delivered his ‘Moon Speech’ because he felt the country needed a positive vision of where it could go over the next 10 years.

8 Review your quick write from Monday
Prompts from Monday - Close your eyes and imagine you have been transported back in time. It is the 60’s and you are in the U.S. Describe what you would see when you open a newspaper and what you would hear on the radio.

9 Now Imagine… You are Martin Luther King and you are listening to JFK’s speech. On the back of your quick write, from Monday, respond to the following: What would Martin Luther King have thought of JFK’s speech? What would Martin Luther King have said to President Kennedy after his speech?
