2. The Beginning
The Taliban took over Afghanistan in 1996, declaring the Islamic Emirate (ruled by Arabs) of Afghanistan. They are a left over group of Al-Qaeda from fighting the Soviets.
The Taliban had complete control over Afghanistan from until the U.S. invasion in 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The U.S. invaded because the Taliban would not let us attack Al-Qaeda members there.

4. Insurgency
After the U.S. invasion in 2001, and still today, the Taliban has used Guerilla Warfare tactics, (hit and run, dressing as civilians) to fight U.S. forces and the Afghanistan government.
Most U.S. troops had been pulled out of Afghanistan, the U.S. primary focus was ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

6. Return
With U.S. troops leaving Afghanistan, the Taliban, backed by Al-Qaeda, has managed to counter attack and has taken more land back in Afghanistan.
Shortly after being pulled out, American Troops were quickly sent back to help the Afghan soldiers.

1st paragraph: How did Al-Qaeda and their ally the Taliban get started? Why did the U.S. initially give weapons to these groups? As a result of what happened with the U.S. weapons, would you continue to give other countries weapons in the future? Be careful, we give a lot of allies weapons, like Israel, South Korea and Japan.
2nd paragraph: Why are they fighting the U.S., and why is it sometimes hard to destroy them all? What is a Fatwa? What are Insurgents? What always happens when we leave a country when we think we destroyed the terrorists? How would you stop terrorists from coming back?
3rd paragraph: In the end, how would you handle this situation. Would you destroy, or leave the terrorists alone? Would you bomb the entire country, knowing that some civilians will be killed, or would you risk American lives by sending ground troops?
