1 Primary vs. Secondary Sources
Which is which?

2 What is a primary source?

3 SPEECHES, QUOTATIONS Remember when Vicky Bullett visited our school? Our principal taught this former WNBA basketball player in school in Martinsburg, WV! She was named to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame! So, if you chatted with her and cited her words in a report, would your citation be from a primary or a secondary source?

4 Primary Source If you interviewed Vicky Bullett, and then quoted her, her words would constitute a primary source, because you would not have changed them from her original words. No changes from original

5 ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS, such as newspapers, for example
Hey, let me see that newspaper, you know, the one we were talking about, with the article about the sea wolves in it!

6 Information has not been changed in any way
Primary Source If you use information from the sea wolf newspaper article in your report, you can say that you retrieved your information from a primary source! Information has not been changed in any way

7 a video is a primary source (click above to view video and then to advance to next slide)
