1 Spectrum demand estimation
First results based on the 1,4MHz squeeze option UGFA / Geert Laureijssen / Dick Martens FM56(17)027 Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

2 Scope Based upon the traffic estimations as defined in FRMCS Traffic Analysis during the migration period Only Traffic Scenario Critical is taken into account Focus on European Railways and GSMR and E-GSMR bands Based on FRMCS being implemented as dedicated network, using dedicated radio spectrum Based on the usage of 3GPP Release 13, LTE Advanced Pro as radio access technology Only the squeeze option (1,4 MHz) is taken into account at the moment Results and conclusions in the UGFA (UIC) document: FRMCS Spectrum Demand Estimation for Migration period All numbers in this presentation are preliminary and need further discussion and refinement Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

3 Traffic Analysis input (v1.0.1)
Input for Traffic Analysis from the AT-Workgroup. Only Traffic Scenario Critical is taken into account Dimensioning: Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

4 Spectrum estimation methodology
A self-developed model cannot be made with a sufficiently small margin of error Simulations based on propagation models, link budget and/or statistical traffic handling are required for spectrum estimation Within ETSI TC RT a Work Item has been created to come to such throughput simulation based on a detailed set of parameters specifically for railways Different parties of the mobile industry are participating in this working item, and some early simulation results based on these input parameters are available at this moment. The final results of the working item are planned for the beginning of 2018 This presentation based on first results of Ericsson. Also Huawei, Mitsubishi, KCC have delivered contributions. Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

5 Cell centre vs cell edge
Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

6 Worstcase Traffic Analysis: 5,36 trains in one cell of 8 km’s on a high density line Worst case: almost all traffic is at cell edge Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

7 First results Ericsson compared to Traffic Analysis
Powercontrol in the extended GSM-R band Impact MIMO 4x4 and 256QAM Impact of software features like CoMP Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results

8 Conclusions: Simulations based on a uniform set of parameters from different parties of the mobile industry are required to give an accurate estimate of the required spectrum The first results are too inaccurate to draw any conclusions at this moment for the squeeze option. The current set of parameters needs further refinements (CoMP, Powercontrol, MIMO 4x4, 256QAM,….) in ETSI TC-RT to come to comparable simulations. Spectrum demand estimation – Preliminary results
