COLORECTAL CANCER IN TASMANIA
In 2011, 253 new cases of colorectal cancer were diagnosed in Tasmanian males. However, only 82 men died from this cancer in 2011. The number of Tasmanian females diagnosed was 230, and only 68 died that year.

COLORECTAL CANCER IN TASMANIA
In Tasmania, the Age Standardised Rate for death from colorectal cancer was 22.7 per 100,000. In comparison, the ASR for death from colorectal cancer in the Australian population was 15.9 per 100,000. In Tasmania, the ASR for the number of new cases diagnosed (incidence) was 76.0 per 100,000 in 2011. In comparison, the ASR for the Australian incidence was 61.5 per 100,000

Trend-wise, incidence increases with increasing age. In Tasmania this is so particularly after the age of 65. There is also a significant correlation between social disadvantage and lower survival rates from colorectal cancer nationally. In Tasmania, colorectal cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst both males and females.

Shelf life of kits approximately 2 years Temperature parameters - the range of temperatures experienced in Tasmania are within the temperature parameters of the kits Storage and Transport- no special precautions Current cost $12 per kit plus $0.50 royalty – retail price is $15 per kit, which is the same price throughout Australia. Clubs keep $1 per kit sold

NO follow-up or collection by Clubs (apart from collecting unsold kits at the end of the month) Kits easy to use – no dieting Purchasers mail the kit direct to the lab Test results mailed back to both customer and customer’s GP

PRIORITIES FOR 2017 Run the program through Clubs and local pharmacies as before Secure TV ads and social media presence (committee is doing this) PROMOTE kit sales to Rotarians, spouses and friends – everyone over 50 should be tested, every 2 years (National Health & Medical Research Council, Australia) We have just over 2,000 kits to sell
