2 State Employees Combined Campaign September 12 – November 9, 2016

3 What impact does UNCG make?
Who is the SECC? Since its first campaign in 1985, the North Carolina State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) has raised more than $100 million in gifts from state employees!  What impact does UNCG make? UNCG’s generosity - $192,484 in 2015, along with your hard work, earned us two awards: 2015 Chairman’s Award for the highest per capita giving level in the UNC system (average gift was over $200). Top Ten Award - one of the largest campaigns (6th) in the state! Across UNC campuses, our participation rate was the 2nd highest (36%)!

4 2016 UNCG Goal $199,999

5 Who benefits from the SECC?
There are more than 1,000 charities serving the Piedmont-Triad region and North Carolina that are eligible to receive a donation, and donors can choose where their gift goes by designating one or more charities that THEY want to support.

6 Your goal as a solicitor is to know that
YOU are important! Consider YOUR reasons for donating and share your passion! Your story is an important one. Create a positive experience and make it memorable. Ensure that everyone is asked to consider making a pledge.

7 The #1 reason for NOT giving is
NOT BEING ASKED … How to ask … Group “ask” – tag onto existing staff meetings. Individual “ask” – the most effective way to answer individual questions. Both – distribute information at meetings and follow-up with individuals. Kick start everyone’s enthusiasm!

8 The #1 reason for NOT giving is
NOT BEING ASKED … Personalize – make a connection and share YOUR stories about why you’ve chosen to donate to a particular group or organization!

9 The #1 reason for NOT giving is
NOT BEING ASKED … Get Creative! – think outside the box. Talk to one another about how to keep the campaign “fresh.” Share ideas!

10 The #1 reason for NOT giving is
NOT BEING ASKED … Enthusiasm – volunteers who are enthusiastic make all the difference! Consider yourself a “cheerleader” for your favorite charities.

11 The #1 reason for NOT giving is
NOT BEING ASKED … Teamwork – remember that we are in this to succeed. Someone is always around to lend you a helping hand!

12 A Simple Act … Follow-up - make sure to check in with employees who have not yet participated either via the online pledge website or by hard-copy form. Excitement - build excitement by sharing progress. Express thanks - make sure to THANK your donors. This simple act can increase participation!

13 Addressing Questions & Concerns …
Remember the following: Objections are not personal – they’re NOT directed at you. Objections are often based on incorrect information – try to identify the real issue. Show that you care – listen and identify concerns. Don’t be afraid to say you don’t know – let those with questions know that you will get back to them.

14 Friendly Competition Increase percentage of participation.
Check information on SECC website regarding your donors…then follow-up with those who have not yet participated. Give fun prizes and rewards to those who participate by specified date. Celebrate!

15 Friendly Competition SECC wrap-up event for solicitors (November 9, 2016, 12 noon): Special PRIZES for SOLICITORS with the highest percentage of participation!

16 VIP You are a As an SECC Solicitor, you touch the lives of many UNCG employees and help them connect with the causes they care about. Your efforts will impact countless individuals whose lives will be improved through the charities receiving SECC donations, and for this we … Thank You!
