5 Supporting Your Student
Remind your son or daughter that daily homework assignments are an essential part of this class providing additional instruction, practice and reinforcement of review and newly acquired concepts as well as a preview for upcoming concepts. Encourage your son or daughter to seek help immediately if they are having difficulty so that the problem can be remedied quickly. Math Lab is open before school 7:30-8:00 in A113. Instill in your child that attendance is a requirement for success. Students have access to an e-book with many tools that will help them. Encourage them to use it!

6 Students need– Graphing calculator TI 83 or TI 84
Binder/folder dedicated to Algebra I Your support – check grades regularly Ask them what they are doing in Algebra Help them stay organized and study for quizzes and tests Encourage them to take retests if necessary

7 Grades Test retakes are provided Grades will be weighted:
70% Summative Assessments (tests, projects) 30% Formative Assessment (team tests, quizzes, homework, and in class activities/participation) Grading rubrics will be provided for all projects Test retakes are provided

8 Study Teams During this course your student will collaborate with other students as a member of a study team. Together, each team will complete problems and activities that will help them discover new mathematical ideas and methods. This is a very student-centered class. We will support your son or daughter as they work, but will not take away their opportunity to think and investigate for themselves. In order to be successful in this class your student will need to be a willing and active participant as they develop their mathematical understanding.

9 We learn… 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, 30% of what we see, 50% of what we both see and hear, 70% of what is discussed with others, 80% of what we experience personally, and 95% of what we teach someone else. ~ William Glasser
