3. Medical Physics Studies in Greece
I stage – B.Sc in Physics
II stage –M.Sc in Medical Physics
III stage –Ph.D in Medical Physics

4. Two permanent committees are already established by experts ate the Ministry of Health The first one is authorized in the acquisition of the required license in order to be employed hospital institutions someone as a medical physicist in a hospital environment

5. This committee offers two licenses: The first one is for Ionizing Radiation The second one is for NON-Ionizing Radiation

6. Concerning Radiation The requirements are as follows: B.Sc in Physics
M.Sc in Medical Physics
One year experience in a hospital environmet at R.TH, N.M and R
Written examinations on the following topics: R.TH, N.M and R

7. Concerning Non - Ionizing Radiation
The requirements are as follows:
B.Sc in Physics
M.Sc in Medical Physics
Written examinations on the following topics: MRI, Laser and U/S

8. Authorization for acquisition of the license is given by the Second committee in order to
install and operate systems that emit:
Ionizing and
Non-Ionizing radiation

9. Concerning the Non-Ionizing Systems
Presently only the MRI systems are encompassed and the situation is as follows:

10. MRI Systems
From 2011, the renewal of the operation license, at the radiology departments, should have already included the MRI systems since 2011.
From 2013, The Quality Control should have been implemented according to the protocol that has been published by the Greek Atomic Energy Commission

11. MRI Systems c) Should continue to exist repair-maintenance files
QC files
In agreement with the appropriate requirements of the Radiation Protection Regulations for ionizing radiation medical systems.
d) The Medical Physicist is responsible for compliance on all with the above
