Materials: Pencil Notebook Lab Book pg. B-29 Worksheet – Act 18 September 21 Today’s Agenda: Bell work/Agenda Activity 18 Objective: Today we will investigate how rocks can be used to find valuable minerals. Daily Question: Imagine you are hiking and find a rock with shiny minerals in it. Your friend thinks it is a diamond. What tests would you run to find out? Why.

Score 3.0 Student Can: Identify the minerals that make up rocks. Know the uses of rocks & minerals. Explain the rock cycle and how it works. Identify the 3 types of rocks and recognize common examples. Score 2.0 With no help, you can identify some rocks and minerals but have trouble explaining the rock cycle and recognizing common examples. Score 1.0 With help, you have trouble identifying some rocks and minerals and have trouble explaining the rock cycle and recognizing common examples. 3 Rock Formation Vocabulary:
Sediments- Parts of rocks, shells, and dead organisms that have been worn down into small pieces. Sedimentary Rocks-Rocks that are formed when sediments settle on top of each other and harden together. Magma- Hot melted rock found deep inside the earth. Igneous Rocks- Rocks that are formed from cooling magma. Metamorphic Rocks- Rocks that have changed because of heat and/or pressure .
