1 Good Housekeeping Test Debrief
Main Idea, Summary, Inferences

2 Main Idea Question 1: Name 3 specific examples of IDENTITY that you see in the story. Ex. Mama is a hoarder, independent, and messy. What’s wrong with this answer?

3 Main Idea Here’s a better, more detailed answer:
Mama is a hoarder because she doesn’t throw anything away, like old magazines, bones, and a broken typewriter Mama is independent because she doesn’t care what other people think about her mess. She’s not worries about the worms and fleas. Mama is messy and disorganized. Her house is full of old things, many of which (like the snakeskins and bones) she didn’t even know she had.

4 Main Idea Question 3: Internal & External Conflict External Conflicts
Character vs Character Character vs Nature Character vs Society Character vs Fate Internal Conflicts – ONLY 1 TYPE! Character vs Self

5 Main Idea When Mama and Louise fight over the typewriter, what kind of conflict is that? When Bailey tells Louise to stop yelling at Mama, what type of conflict is that? When Mama needs to decide if she should continue hoarding or allow the girls to toss her belongings, what type of conflict is that? When Bailey needs to decide if she should clean Mama’s house or let her be, what type of conflict is that?

6 Summarize the Story Question 2: Somebody Wanted But So
Bailey and Louise wanted to clean up the house, but Mama was a hoarder, so they compromised and threw away a lot of junk but not everything. What’s wrong with this summary?
