4 Questions How can you resolve the growing “crisis in confidence” felt by many Americans? In what ways can you seek to resolve the “crisis of legitimacy” fueled by movements such as the Tea Party? What are the implications of these crisis on future public administration?

5 Social and Governmental Paradoxes
The “blurred” line between private and public sectors A revolution of rising expectations Industrial society versus postindustrial versus reindustrialization Rising violence in society versus a desire for the non-violent means of settling disputes A desire for limited government versus a desire for stronger government regulation Antiquated electoral processes despite our reverence for representative democratic institutions

Hostility towards government paired with a desire to “get mine” Conflict between overhead democracy and consensus politics

7 Questions Modern public administration is expected to simultaneously optimize accountability, efficiency, public participation and representativeness, and strong leadership. How do leaders reconcile internal and external participation with notions such as accountability or efficiency? Does consensus building necessarily conflict with these notions? Should democracy sometimes be sacrificed in exchange for efficiency?
