5 main activity: Islamic Rules:
Are you going to express this using the Christian or Muslim rules for art? Islamic Rules: 1. No human representation (no idolatry) 2. Importance of calligraphy (from the Qur’an - Allah’s words) 3. Use of geometric patterns and arabesque (reflects the order of the universe and natural forms in nature)

6 main activity: Christian Rules:
1. Use of human representation particularly Jesus (Jesus was God on Earth – gives a vision of God) 2. Using pictures of people to tell important stories from the faith 3. Using pictures of people to tell important stories from the faith. (communicates the central beliefs – death and resurrection of Jesus)

7 main activity: Both faiths will use colours to show beliefs - blue/green for peace, red/orange for passion of anger, yellow for joy etc. Both faiths will use symbolism to convey messages e.g. the Ka’ba in Islam, the Cross in Christianity

8 homework: Research and find out about an influential artist within the Islamic or Christian worlds. Find out what their best works were like. What inspired them? Explain why this work inspires you/confuses you/makes you want to ask this question……
