5 Administering the Benchmark Assessment
Consistency at Bingham is key : Start with Where to Start Word Lists (get these done ahead of time) Start with introductory sentence(s ) on front of book. (sets a purpose for reading) Pay attention to oral and silent reading parts of the task Definite shift from QUESTION & ANSWER to NATURAL CONVERSATION about the text Be consistent with scoring comprehension within your class Have conversations with your colleagues about answers to comprehension questions Using writing component (does take more time – but does provide an additional piece of information about student comprehension) Make sure to use a number of different rubrics to determine levels (accuracy rate, fluency score, comprehension conversation, etc.) Finding an INSTRUCTIONAL LEVEL when numbers don’t add up
