15 Why did we do this?

16 Source Analysis The analysis of political cartoons/written excerpts and your understanding of them in relation to a general topic. Connections/relationships between the sources. Do not get this confused with a personal response. There are some commonalities (no set essay structure) but there should be no use of “I”

17 Source Analysis Marking Scale: Interpretation of Sources: 12
Identification of Relationships: 6 Quality of Communication: 2 Total: 20

18 Position Paper To assess your understanding of the major concepts covered in class by your position on the source and topic provided. Very similar to a critical essay, except the context is different (analysis of concepts vs. a novel)

19 Position Paper Marking Scale: Analysis of Source: 6 Argumentation: 8
Evidence: 8 Communication: 8 Total: 30

20 Case Study Position Paper source Analysis
“TIN SOLDIERS” Case Study Position Paper source Analysis

21 TIN SOLDIER LINK:

22 Position Paper Handout given in class. Question to consider:
. What is the base material to creating all electronic devices? How many of you know where Tin (the major metal used for small parts in electronics) comes from? What is the history of Uganda? Does anyone know?

23 Topic to Respond to There are a few viewpoints that you are presented with in this video: The reporters, the miners and the British Business man Mr Ketan Kotecha are just a few of them. Mr Ketan Kotecha makes an interesting statement when the reporter asks him if he thinks that what he is doing is the right thing. He says: “Yes, salary structures are very low, but it is better that the miners and Boarders get something than nothing. If I didn’t do it, someone else would. I am not here as some kind of moral savior.”

24 Some Questions to Consider…
Are you in agreement with Mr Ketan Ketacha’s statement in which he justifies inequality as a means of survival? Do you believe that purposeful disparity in economic globalization is acceptable and his position that business should not be linked with morality and equality?

25 Position Paragraph Topic:
Please respond to this quote and state your position on the following topic: To what extent does economic globalization provide prosperity for all people of the world?

26 Source Analysis Examine each source. Use your knowledge and understanding of Social Studies and information in the sources to write a response in paragraph form in which you: Interpret each source, and explain the perspective on globalization presented in each source. AND Identify and explain one or more of the relationships among the sources

27 Source 1 “Yes, salary structures are very low, but it is better that the miners and Boarders get something than nothing. If I didn’t do it, someone else would. I am not here as some kind of moral savior.” – Ketan Kotecha
