2 What is a Physician Assistant (PA)?
A nationally certified and state-licensed medical professional Practice medicine on healthcare teams with physicians and other providers Practice and prescribe medication in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and all U.S. territories Jacqui

3 What can a PA do? Take your medical history Conduct physical exams
Diagnose and treat illnesses Order and interpret tests Develop treatment plans Counsel on preventive care Assist in surgery Write prescriptions Make rounds in hospitals and nursing homes Does not have to choose one specialty! Median salary: $92,970 (BLS, 2013) JJ

10 Treasurer New member dues are $25/semester
Returning member dues are $20/semester Please make checks payable to: "Baylor Pre-Physician Assistant Society" Dues should be turned in by second member meeting late dues increase by $5 Wednesday, October 7th

11 Secretary I will be keeping track of attendance and each member's status throughout the semester so make sure to come to the meetings and earn your points so that you can be considered an "active member" (: BPPAS meetings are every other Wednesday, and you are required to attend them Please remember to sign in on the sign in sheet today, even if you are just visiting If you have any questions about your membership status or attendance at any point this semester, just me!

13 Service POINTS In society service opportunities will include:
10 semester points At least 5 points must be in society points 1 point this semester is required to be a social event No points are awarded for attending meeting In society service opportunities will include: Texas Home Health Hospice Fuzzy Friends Salvation Army and others throughout the semester!

14 Health Care Liasons Need help finding shadowing/volunteer opportunities? That's what we're here for! Different opportunities will arise throughout the semester Include: Volunteering at the Family Health Center Shadowing PAs at the Family Health Center Possibly a CPR class

16 Social "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter" - e.e. Cummings It's all about meeting new people and learning from each other! sit next to new people at every meeting don’t be afraid to introduce yourself! Social activities will be posted to Social Media accounts and announced in meeting as well! POINTS! Study Socials! Group Workouts! Various opportunities throughout the semester!

17 Fundraising This year, BPPAS will have a fundraising committee to help with the responsibilities and tasks in order to raise as much money as possible! The committee will consist of an overall leader (Katie) and 3 other members from the society If you want to apply for a position please grab an application after the meeting and turn it back into Katie by the next meeting! (Oct. 7) Reasons to apply? Looks good on resume You will build relationships with other members and officers Good introduction to BPPAS leadership You will be a very important member towards the success of the society ☺
