13 The minister of Health of Uganda also made a visit to Uganda Heart Institute Today! Not sure they have ever had so much attention in one year, let alone one week! This is very exciting for UHI and for Gift of Life! Rob presented her with a Gift of Life pin. She is a pediatrician and trained right here with Dr. Lwabe.

15 Thanks to all of you Rotarians that give money to our Foundations to allow projects like this to be accomplished. Teaching heart surgeons in Uganda how to operate on children with life threatening heart disease. Not only will these 10 children now have a life, but also the program of operating on childrens’ hearts will be sustained because of the education of these Uganda heart surgeons.

16 And here is some frosting for the cake…..
Gift of Life International and the Ugandan Government have finalized an historic agreement which will lead to the saving of over 300 Ugandan children during the next 3 years. The Memorandum of Understanding which was signed committed the Ugandan Government to funding 100 surgeries a year for 3 years at a cost of $1.5 million dollars. This commitment is the first of its kind in Africa and sets the standard for public/private partnerships which have as their objective the development of sustainable pediatric cardiac programs.
