Every day, an estimated 3,000 to 6,000 people worldwide die from diseases caused by contaminated water. Filtration can reduce the risks, but traditional bacterial and viral filters trap pathogens inside granular carbon or porous ceramic or polymer materials, many of which are difficult to clean and must be changed frequently. Nanofiltration Systems Nanofiltration is a relatively recent membrane filtration process used most often with low total dissolved solids water such as surface water and fresh groundwater, with the purpose of softening polyvalent cation removal and removal of disinfection by-product precursors such as natural organic matter and synthetic organic matter. They are pre-assembled, fully tested, preserved, sanitized and only require simple utility connections once on site. These systems come ready for immediate on-line service, and require minimal set up and little adjustment. AXEON 4-Inch Nanofiltration Systems feature the highest quality components, including a programmable computer controller with built-in standard features, a stainless steel booster pump for high performance and corrosion resistance, Nanofiltration membranes, and fiberglass membrane housings for enhanced performance and durability. The major components of the AXEON R1-Series Nanofiltration Systems are supported by a rigid aluminum frame and designed in such a way to provide ease of access for servicing, maintenance, and monitoring performance.

4 Nanofiltration membranes reject ions that are divalent such as calcium, magnesium, and sulfate while allowing passage of monovalent ions such as sodium and chloride. Since Nanofiltration membrane compositions are less tightly meshed than reverse osmosis membranes, the permeate flow is higher and the pump pressure is lower, thus saving energy. Nanofiltration is ideal for water softening because it removes calcium and magnesium from hard water. Hardness removal can range from 50% to 97% depending on the membrane selected.
