1 First Lesson in a Series of Ten
Truth First Lesson in a Series of Ten

2 (b. This is also the reason “Truth” is our first subject.
Man must know “what truth is”, i.e., define truth and He must also “know the truth” A. Or, “that which is true”. 3. Google the question “What is truth?” A. Access to more than 600,000,000 responses in less than ½ a second. 4. So, in this lesson, I want to do two things: A. I want to define “what truth is”, and – B. I want to define “that which is true”. C. So I will try to accomplish both # 1 and # 2 above in this lesson. A. Word “truth” – more than 200 times in the Bible. (1. Present sufficient information to define “what truth is”. (a. This is the primary purpose of these studies. (b. This is also the reason “Truth” is our first subject.

3 That which is firm, faithful, true.
So, What Is Truth? Old Testament: אֱמֶת n.f. firmness, faithfulness, truth New Testament: ἀλήθεια: it means the content of that which is true and thus - in accordance with what actually is - 'truth.' “a” means “not, without, or opposite to” Examples: asocial, atonality, asonia ἀλήθεια – the ἀ negates λανθάνω: which means “to cause oneself to not be known, with the implication of concealment and secrecy - 'to escape notice, to remain hid- den.' ” It is used in Mk 7:24 – Jesus could not be hid; So “truth” is: That which is firm, faithful, true. It is “real”, it is “evident”, it “exists” and it can be found.

4 KJV John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. KJV John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. These people are “disciples” of Jesus – followers, students If they would continue in His word: (1. They would truly be His disciples, (2. They would know the truth, and (3. They would be made free.

5 Jesus, would set His disciples free from sin and death
Jesus, would set His disciples free from sin and death. John 14:6 “I am the truth” – every word is emphatic! John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. We see that “word” and “truth” are the same thing. Jesus is both. KJV John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. KJV John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. So the Word (God) became flesh (Jesus Christ) and dwelt among men here on earth.

6 KJV 1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; KJV 1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. KJV John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. ἐξηγέομαι make something fully known by careful explanation or by clear revelation - 'to make fully and clearly known.' KJV Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. KJV Colossians 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

7 KJV John 14:6-9 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

8 To sum up, in this lesson we have studied that: 1
To sum up, in this lesson we have studied that: 1. The Word is God, John 1:1-2. The Word is truth, John 14:6. 2. The Word became flesh and dwelt among men, John 1: The Word revealed God the Father to man, John 1: The Apostles identified Jesus as the Word of Life, 1 John 1:1. 5. Jesus Christ claimed that anyone who has seen Him, has seen the Father, John 14:9.

9 Inferences Since Jesus Christ is God, the Word, the Truth, the Way and the Life, He has the capacity to set man free from sin and death. 2. Since He is the revelation of God the father, and since one can come to God only through Him, it is true that separate from Jesus: A. One cannot know God. B. One cannot come to God. C. One cannot be set free from sin. D. One cannot have the life that Jesus Christ came to give.

10 These are wonderful things to know!
1. They should give us hope. 2. An awareness that we have something greater to look forward to than anything this life has to offer. 3. And man has a very good and great cause to inspire him to live a good life.
