The Columbian Exchange was the exchange of living things, diseases, and ideas across the Atlantic Ocean between the Old World (Europe) and the New World (Americas), starting in the 1400s after Christopher Columbus discovered central America. 12 DEFINITION: Explorer advantages over Native Americans
WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY European Explorers from countries such as Spain and Portugal set sail across the Atlantic Ocean from the Old World to the New World looking for gold, glory, and to spread their belief in God during the Age of Exploration. Upon arrival in the Americas, they slaughtered Native populations by using their advantages of steel, swords, germs, language, and horses, allowing them to set up new colonies and forever changing the populations in the Americas.
