2 What is the DofE? Five sections: Volunteering Physical Skill
Expedition Residential (Gold only) Level Minimum duration Expedition Residential Bronze 6 months 2 days None Silver 12 months 3 days Gold 18 months 4 days in wild country 5 days

3 Gold (16+ years old) Volunteering Physical Skills Expedition
Residential 12 months One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months Plan, train for and undertake a 4 day, 3 night expedition. Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights. Direct entrants must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections.

4 Support, guidance and encouragement.
We offer... Support, guidance and encouragement. and We could offer a training weekend, but this will depend on interest and students starting their awards. The rest is your responsibility...HAVE YOU THE MOTIVATION AND DRIVE?

5 Expedition section We will use BXM Expeditions. This is organised through school and the cost will be £395. This will include a training / planning day, a practice expedition and the qualifying expedition. Last year we used wild country in mid Wales for the expeditions. The dates are set and cannot be changed: Training day – Tuesday 27th February 2018. Practice : 15th – 18th March ‘18 inclusive. (Mr Hield will accompany this expedition and provide transport to and from). Qualifier: 16th – 20th July ‘18 inclusive. Participants will have to make their own way to the start of the expedition and transport home too. Check out the BXM website.

6 What now? Take a letter & form.
Applicants must consider and be clear that they are: are strongly motivated to enjoy and achieve the award; are reliable and committed in all aspects of life, in and beyond school.

7 Deadline: Forms and payment need to be handed in to the Finance Office by Friday 20thth October. Meeting deadlines is important in order for this scheme to work and so this is a first test. Any applications after 20th October will not be considered.
