MISSION The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University learns from and works with people with disabilities and their families in diverse communities across Pennsylvania to create and share knowledge, change systems, and promote self-determined lives so that disability is recognized as a natural part of the human experience.

7 Academy for Adult Learning Outcomes
From 2006 through 2017, the Academy has seen success in graduation rates, student supports, academic interest, & employment 89 Graduates 250 Mentors and Tutors 218 Undergraduate classes audited 617 Continuing Education classes

8 Academy for Adult Learning Outcomes
According to our 2016 Post-Grad survey 60% of our Graduates are employed 33% people have part-time jobs 5% of our Graduates are pursuing additional college towards a degree

9 Inclusive Higher Education Transition
During Fall 2017, the Academy for Adult Learning becomes Leadership and Career Studies, a four-year certificate program expanding the following areas Increased Academic Involvement Leadership, Diversity, and Inclusion Certificate Expanded Employment Opportunities Inclusive Enrichment Sessions Capstone Project

10 Transition to a Four Year Program
Academy for Adult Learning Leadership & Career Studies Bi-weekly Seminar Leadership, Diversity, and Inclusion Certificate; Enrichment Auditing, PASCEP classes For-credit, auditing, and PASCEP classes; Certificates possible One semester employment experience Five semester employment experience Separate orientation and training Inclusive orientation and training Student-only capstone project Joint mentor-mentee capstone project IOD Supported Certificate Temple University sanctioned credential and certificates High-quality mentor and tutor supports High-quality mentor and tutor supports; ongoing trainings Faculty/Professional Advisory Council Faculty/Professional and Participant Advisory Councils

16 Employment Opportunities
Starting in the second year student will be required to complete five semesters of: Job rotation Internships Supported work Competitive employment This experience will be based on each student’s Person Center Plan

17 Leadership & Career Studies Capstone Project
Prior to graduating both AAL students and their mentor will work together to create the following: Employment Plan Resume Cover Letter Linked In

18 Student Mentors/Tutors
Mentors and Tutors are recruited, hired, trained and supervised by professional staff Each student is matched with a mentor Tutors are assigned to support students in class, or where extended academic need is requested

19 Ongoing Mentor/Tutor Training
Applicable skills Four sessions: Community of practice and digital monitoring Promoting self-determination Providing academic support Teaching and accessing technology

20 Student Mentors Provide support and assistance to students as they make social and academic adjustments to college life Activities are determined and directed by the Academy students

21 Student Tutors Provide academic support to students in class
Provide academic supports outside of class, supporting students in the completion of their course work
