3. How Use Layers First start with your assembly
Then begin creating layers by selecting the SHOW TAB and then LAYER TREE

4. Using Layers Click on the Layer Tab and then New Layer.
Now you will have to give your layer a name like top, bottom, etc.
After naming it, begin selecting the datum planes, axes, etc. of the items you will want in your new layer.

After selecting all datum plane and surfaces you will need to click on the INCLUDE TAB.
Next you will need to select all the rest of the parts (surfaces, axes, etc.) that you don’t want to be in your layer and click on the EXCLUDE TAB.

Now that you have your layer’s made you can right click on the layer you created and then on the HIDE TAB to hide all the other surfaces that you picked to make up your layers.
You will be left with all the surfaces that you did not choose to be a part of the layer.

You will also need to save your layer so you will have it when you assemble you parts together.
You will need to click on the SETTINGS TAB, then select SETUP FILE and then go to SAVE.
You can pick where you want to save it.

You will begin to assemble your parts or layers like you would with any other assembly.
Insert your first part like a regular assembly at the same time you insert your part, the layers you created for that part are inserted as well.

You will need to click on SETTINGS TAB, then go to SETUP FILE and select OPEN
You are going to open the layer for the part that you insert When you insert the next part, only features you put in the layers are the ones that are needed to constraint your parts.

Now when you insert a part into the assembly the layers will come along with it.
Now just constrain all the parts like you would do in a regular assembly and you are finished.
