1 Static Eliminator Maintenance

2 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
EXAIR Static Eliminators neutralize and clean by blanketing a surface with static eliminating ions. To determine the effectiveness of EXAIR’s Static Eliminators, use the Model 7905 Digital Static Meter. Simply measure the voltage on the part prior to ionizing it. Ionize the surface, then measure the voltage again. It should read “zero”.

3 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
If you do not have a Static Meter, follow these steps to maintain proper function of your EXAIR Static Eliminators. Identify the emitter(s): Super Ion Air Knives and Standard Ion Air Knives use an Ionizing Bar (top photo) that has multiple emitter points across its length. Ion Air Guns, Ion Air Jets (bottom photo), and Ion Air Cannons have one emitter point on the inside diameter of the air outlet.

4 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
First, check for any accumulation of dust or debris on the surface of the ionizing point as this will degrade the effectiveness of the Static Eliminator. Remove these contaminants with a small non-metallic brush. NOTE: Never clean an ionizer with the power on!

5 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
Second, use a voltmeter, to check the voltage between the emitter point of the Static Eliminator to ground.

6 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
The voltage for an Ionizing Bar from the emitter point to ground will measure approximately VAC. Set your voltmeter to read this range. Place one probe on the emitter point and the other on the grounded aluminum channel of the Ionizing Bar.

7 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
Voltage for an Ion Air Cannon, Ion Air Gun, Ion Air Jet or Ionizing Point measured from the emitter point to ground will be VAC. Set your voltmeter to read this range. Place one probe on the emitter point and the other on the grounded housing.

8 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
Third, check the voltage of the EXAIR Power Supply. This requires a volt meter and a high voltage probe to be inserted into the power supply connector. (A high voltage probe must be used or permanent damage to the volt meter will result.)

9 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
With the power supply off, connect the ground of the high voltage probe to the threaded ground stud on the power supply. Turn the power supply on, then insert the high voltage probe into one of the threaded connectors.

10 Static Eliminator - Maintenance
The voltage measured should be 4,700 VAC to 5,700 VAC if the power supply is functioning properly.
