Stroke rehabilitation is the only evidence based treatment for stroke recovery once the initial (72hr or so) medical intervention has ended
For those who survive a stroke, the recovery of neurological impairment takes place over a variable time span. About 30% of survivors will be fully independent within 3 weeks, rising to nearly 50% by 6 months

The key outcome of stroke rehab is to improve patients quality of life, reduce disability and improve ability to participate in social engagement roles such as being a mum or being a worker

The National Stroke Strategy (particularly life after stroke) provides some key quality markers and the London stroke strategy operationalises these into specific services standards
