Red Scare= Wave of widespread fear of communists & radicals in U.S. after WWI Influenced by Russian Revolution (1917)= Russia became the Soviet Union, a communist nation Belief was that communism was reason for labor disputes/strikes/riots in U.S. Palmer Raids= Early 1920, thousands of people arrested; many Eastern European immigrants; Most never charged for a crime, hundreds of people deported American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) formed in 1920 Became involved in major cases related to the Red Scare Designed to protect the liberties of those accused of treasonous activities
