HMA Open Awards FMA – 13 open projects totaling $10.2M
PDM – 11 open projects totaling $1.9M HMGP – 35 open projects totaling $35M (fed and state)

Secretary Engagement On February 14th, VDEM briefed the State Coordinator and staff from the Secretary’s office on the eligible project types for HMA funding, and statewide priorities were set.

Stakeholder Engagement
On February 21st VDEM held a hazard mitigation grant stakeholder workshop Each VDEM region represented by a local government or planning district commission State agency representation (DCR, DMME) Discussed state priorities and how we can merry the local project needs with the funding opportunities

Commonwealth Priorities
Strategic level projects that have multiple benefits Climate resilience mitigation activities Large scale projects with whole community impacts Holistic mitigation measures (protects multiple hazards) Infrastructure protection projects Alert and warning projects State level projects Improved data in mitigation plans to drive project development

Next Meeting The next meeting will involve project level criteria for the purposes of prioritization for funding (April 2017) This will include a peer review process

Refined PA Process starting with Winter Storm Jonas (January 2016) Process small projects as estimates If work is completed, closeout quality review being performed by the state during Project Worksheet Development All documentation to be submitted electronically through VirginiaPA.org Have paid out $15M in snow disaster to date

Hurricane Matthew Update
70 project worksheets written VDEM has reviewed 61 Anticipate approximately 129 project worksheets JFO slated to close on March 31 Anticipated federal PA dollars be $20M

Preparedness Grants Regional Stakeholder Meetings were held across the Commonwealth over the past 3 weeks. All meeting resources can be found on VDEM’s Website at vaemergency.com>EM Community>Grants Pending federal legislation, the tentative due date for projects is May 5th.

Preparedness Grants The Grants Office is currently registering Peer Reviewers in the vendor hall. Can also VDEM’s website The success of this stakeholder driven process is the peer review. Please register, time commitment is about hours over a 3 week period. (mid May – first June) Commonwealth Goal 300 peer reviewers!
