Who wants pizza?

The school is having another family night and, since last time you and your classmates complained about the cafeteria food, you have been put in charge of the food. After much consideration, you have decided to make homemade pizza. You decide to ask your Mom for help, and she says that, aside from doing the shopping, you are on your own. She does, however, let you know that there will be 63 people at family night, and each of them will need 1/2 of a pizza. She also said that, in order to have a diverse menu, that you should make 3 different types of pizza.

Task Your first hurdle is that you have never made homemade pizza before, and, there are no recipe books in the house. Luckily, a friend is giving you several great online recipe sites, and he has promised you that you will be able to find recipes for the dough, for the sauce, and for making pizzas there. Your second hurdle is that your Mom needs to know how much of each ingredient to buy. On a separate piece of paper you will need to figure how much of each ingredient you will need to buy.

Process You will go online and choose a recipe for pizza dough, and a recipe for pizza sauce. Once you have your recipes, it is time to figure out how much of each ingredient you will need. Don’t forget to include the ingredients you will need for the toppings. Calculations The first set should be to figure out how many pizzas are needed of each kind. The second set should be to figure out how much of each ingredient is needed for the pizza dough recipe that you are using. (Be sure and note how many pizzas your dough recipe is for.) Your third set of calculations should be to figure out how much of each ingredient is needed for the pizza sauce recipe that you are using. (Again, be sure to note how many pizzas your sauce recipe is for.) The fourth set of calculations should be to figure out how much of each ingredient is needed to put your pizzas together.

Process Continued 4. Combine all of your lists of the ingredients to prepare a shopping list that you can give mom. You need to list each item – the amount needed and the amount of packages your mom will need to buy. 5. GUESS WHAT!! YOU NEED TO TELL MOM HOW MUCH MONEY SHE IS GOING TO SPEND. Make sure you use the Meijer website and add up the total… figure out the price and multiple it by the amount that you need!!!

Resources This is a great site of recipes, and it has an obvious search box when the first page opens. Just type in what you are looking for and click go. This is a great site of recipes, and it has an obvious search box when the first page opens. Just type in what you are looking for and click go. This is another great site for recipes. Once at the site, go to the recipes and more page. Then, under "browse departments", choose advanced search for recipes, and you are on your way. This is also another great site for recipes, and there is a search box of the first page when it comes up. This website will help with your sizing options and how much you owe Each Other. Each and every on of you has great ideas and your own individual perspective. Your Teacher. This should be your last resource.

Conclusion The skills that you learn in math class do have applications in the real world, and the Internet is a great resource for finding things that you need, even when you didn't know that you needed them. How would you answer the following question in your journal? 1. What would happen if, after giving Mom your grocery list, she informed you that there were going to be 20 more people coming?

What you should have at the end of the project:
Three pizza names with list of all items needed for the pizza Answer to conclusion question Total for the grocery bill A grocery list for your mom to take to the store What items needed How much of each item (ounces, etc.) Packages of each item needing purchased
