2. Glaze is glass.
Glazing makes pots watertight
and easy to clean, and often food safe.
More importantly, it enhances
AESTHETIC QUALITIES (if done right).
Color is determined by the
chemical composition of the glaze,
as well as what temperature it is fired.

3. Rinse bisqueware first to remove any surface dirt.
Apply 3 EVEN coats with a soft brush.
Pour, dab, or dip to apply glaze in tough to reach spots. BE NEAT!
Only UNDERGLAZES can be used on greenware.
Get approval of glaze choices before glazing. Use no more than 3 colors.

4. Heavy textures look better when they are monochromatic (one color).

18. AMACO:
LG –Lead Free, gloss glazes flow slightly during firing to achieve a smooth, high gloss finish.
ST –Lead Free (not food safe), stone texture glazes produce a weathered and worn out look on high relief areas or an antique-like finish on textured surfaces.
F –Lead Free, semi-opaque glazes that fire with a high gloss. Good for pottery dishes as well as all types of pottery.
CTL –Lead Free, Crystallex glazes feature a base color with the addition of one or more crystals of contrasting colors for a unique multi-color effect.
O –Lead Free, opalescent glazes develop very interesting textures when applied over red clay. They also have a high gloss with an irridescence similar to mother of pearl.
V- UNDERGLAZE –Lead Free and can be used on greenware or bisqueware and under other glazes. What you see if what you get –very much like paint and can even be watered down.
Mayco Stroke & Coat
These have fun names that match their color (Hot Tamale=Red). You can apply less coats for translucent colors. Designed for bisque, but can be used on greenware and stoneware.
