1 Jellyfish By Lillianne 17

2 Background Scientist say jellyfish have survived for 165 million years. There are over 2000 species of jellyfish. They do not have bones, blood, brain, or a heart but they do have a nervous system. Box jellyfish even have eyes. Jellyfish come in all sizes. Their bodies can range from one inch in diameter up to seven feet with tentacles up to 120 feet long. The Thimble Jellyfish are no bigger than your thumb.

3 Characteristics The jellyfish use their tentacles to inject toxins or entangle their prey. Jelly fish do not attack humans but may sting if touched by one. Many jellyfish appear clear, while others are very colorful. Colors include yellow, orange, red, blue and purple. Most jellyfish are shaped like a bell or umbrella and have tentacles that come down from the edge of the bell. The tentacles of a jelly fish contain millions of stingers.

4 Diet/Habitat A jellyfish diet consists of:
plankton fish and fish eggs crustaceans and other species of jellyfish Jellyfish can live in any ocean water. Some jellyfish live in freshwater.

5 Adaptation Jellyfish can be large and brightly colored. Jellyfish are invertebrates.Jellyfish eat from underneath them.

6 Jaw Dropping Facts Jellyfish are not fish.
There are a few species that do eat jellyfish which include; sea turtles, ocean sunfish, and a variety of birds. One of the biggest predators of jellyfish is other jellyfish. Jellyfish have very few predators because they have stinging cells that can cause severe pain and or death.

7 Endangered and Extinction Info
Saltwater jellyfish are nowhere close to being on the endangered species list. There is a freshwater jellyfish that was thought to be facing extinction (called a Peach Blossom Jellyfish) because of higher water temperatures which cannot exceed 35deg centigrade. The Peach Blossom Jellyfish was recently found in large quantities in a lake in east China.

8 con- clusion I like jellyfish because they can be different colors and they're so pretty.
