2 What is a resume? Basically, a resume is a summary of your awesomeness
It tells your potential employer who you are, and what qualifies you to be employable It contains your contact information, your career goal, work experiences, education, activities/honors, and any other information relevant to the interview

5 “Brand Statement” Or That: Steadfast, committed and passionate sales leader, conceives and deploys creative proposals to overcome challenges and advance organizational measurables. Motivating and enthusiastic mentor and coach, instills ownership to engage successful performance-driven teams. Intuitive and attentive listener, readily uncovers customer need to offer viable and enticing product solutions. A “Brand Statement” communicates the essence of who you are in the workplace. Branding is a marketing concept and tool. Your brand reflects your professional reputation — what you’re known for (or would like to be known for).

6 Education A list in chronological order starting with the most present of ALL your educational experiences. For example: Education: Spring Mills High School 2013-present Current GPA: 4.1 James Rumsey Technical Institute 2015-present

7 Work Experience A chronological list of all your work-related experience. For example: Work Experience: Babysitting for Salfia Family: after school and during the summer for Addie (8), Jayce (5), and Dominic (3) Summer 2012-present Yard work for Doreen McCloud rake leaves, take out trash, mow grass 2010-present

8 Honors and Awards List any special honors you have been given. For example: Honors and Awards: Cardinal Award: 1st 9 weeks, 2015 Perfect Attendance 1st Team All-Conference, Volleyball 2015

9 Activities List all extra-curricular and community activities. For example: Activities: Co-captain Spring Mills Soccer team Fall 2015 Member of the Holly River Baptist Church Youth Group 2006-present Member of the Spring Mills High Diversity Club

10 Special Skills Only create a “Special Skills” Section if you truly have a special skill. For example if you speak 2 or 3 languages or are Red Cross certified in CPR or if you have a license to operate heavy machinery then you should list these things in this section.

11 “References available upon request”
If you have room on your resume, list the names and addresses of those wonderful folks who wrote letters of recommendation for you. If you are out of room on your resume, it’s perfectly acceptable to write “References available upon request”

12 The Layout of a Resume: How it should Look
Your name should be in the largest, boldest font, and should be at the top of the page. Your address and contact information should follow Address Phone number(s) APPROPRIATE ! All sections should line up and appear neat, orderly, and easy to read. Use bold font for main headings or sections Structure sections the same way aesthetically and grammatically Use action verbs to describe duties and tasks

13 Resume “DON’Ts”  Don’t…..
-Use a unprofessional font. Use only Times New Roman, Arial, etc. -Have an inappropriate -Have typos, spelling errors, grammatical mistakes -Print your resume on crazy colored paper -Clip art or “cutsy” images on your resume -Do anything unless Mrs. Salfia tells you it’s “ok”
