Edward T. Gein a.k.a “The Plainfiel Ghoul” a.k.a. “The Mad Butcher” a.k.a “Buffalo Bill” Born August 27, 1906 in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. [1] Second child to George Philip and Augusta Whilhelmine Gein. His mother was the daughter of Prussian immigrants. [2] His mother greatly disliked her husband, but due to religious beliefs against divorce, they stayed together. [3] His mother owned a grocery store but later purchased a farm on the outskirts of town and relocated her family there; she didn’t want any outside influence on her sons. [4] Only outside contact Edward had was when he went to school. [4]

3 Continued… His mother was a fervent Lutheran and believed and preached that the world was evil, that drinking was the devils wish, and that all women, excluding herself, were prostitutes who worked for the devil. [4] Augusta reserved a time everyday to read the boys parts of the bible, sections on the old testament involving death, murder and divine retribution. [4] His mother always punished him when he tried to talk about making new friends. [3] His brother died in 1944 and his mother died in [3]

The Murder

7 Trolling Phase Dug up freshly buried bodies from the grave yard.
Middle-aged women Resembled his mother [6] Between 1947 and 1952, he made as many as 40 nocturnal visits to three local graveyards to exhume recently buried bodies while he was in a "daze-like" state [6] On about 30 of those visits, he said he had come out of the daze while in the cemetery, left the grave in good order, and returned home empty handed [6] Shortly after his mother's death, Gein had decided he wanted a sex change and began to create a "woman suit" so he could pretend to be a female. Gein's practice of donning the tanned skins of women was described as an "insane transvestite ritual". Gein denied having sex with the bodies he exhumed, explaining, "They smelled too bad."

8 Wooing and Capture Phase
All, except two victims, were already deceased. Grave robbery… No wooing, two victims were just shot and killed instantly. Transportation from grave yard to his home [6]

9 Murder Phase Victims were already deceased when Gein came in contact with them. Two exceptions were shot and killed at close range. Shot with 22 caliber rifle. Claims to have dug up 10 bodies, killed two other women, and supposedly killed his brother. He dug up the graves of recently buried middle-aged women he thought resembled his mother and took the bodies home, where he tanned their skins to make his paraphernalia. Gein admitted robbing nine graves, leading investigators to their locations. Because authorities were uncertain as to whether the slight Gein was capable of single-handedly digging up a grave in a single evening, they exhumed two of the graves and found them empty, thus corroborating Gein's confession.
