3 What is PASTA? Est. 2013 Peers And Students Taking Action (PASTA) is a student-run volunteer organization aimed at helping the teens and kids in Loudoun County 12 chapters, 85 students, 19 local partnerships, 72 unique projects Not affiliated with LCPS No parent involvement Non-profit status approved in October 2016

4 How Does PASTA Work? Chapters consist of 4-8 students (middle school or high school) Each chapter is in charge of completing their own unique projects as well as 2-3 PASTA-wide projects per year. Each new chapter is mentored by a member of an existing chapter until they can function on their own The Board of Directors run PASTA and maintains chapter growth and maintenance programs, local partnerships, and social media strategies

5 Past Projects 200 Jeans in 2 weeks- Chapter 100
6-week guitar lessons at INMED- Chapter 105 “Un-Birthday Party” for 30 kids at INMED- Chapter 108 Collected a half-ton of cereal for Loudoun Interfaith Relief- Chapter 100 45 days of food for Mobile Hope- PASTA-wide Raised $3,000 for a family on the verge of homelessness in Sterling- PASTA-wide

7 FREE Tutoring/Mentoring Program
Matches High Schoolers (you) with 4th and 5th graders at Potowmack Elementary school to provide effective tutoring/mentoring sessions Goal: help mentees reach their academic goals while establishing a meaningful relationship with them 40 minutes- Homework/Studying, 20 minutes- talking/playing games Each pair should meet at least 5 times between March 13 - May 12 (8 weeks) Each session is 1 hour and held in a public location (cascades library, wegmans, starbucks, target, panera, etc.) The parent of the 4th/5th grader must be at the location for the entirety of the tutoring/mentoring session

8 How Does It Work? PASTA has partnered with TutorMatchingService.com

9 Tutors Once you are PASTA certified you will receive a badge on your profile which will make you visible to the 4th/5th graders (and parents) who are browsing TutorMatchingService.com 4th/5th graders will browse the PASTA page and choose a tutor whose availability/subject preferences match up with theirs. We will hold a Tutor Training Session on March 8th (during your next NHS meeting) to give you a bag of supplies, games, tips, and to provide more details on how the tutoring/mentoring program works.

Tutor and become a role model to a cute 4th or 5th grader Perfect for busy schedules - you determine when you are available to tutor Help design a program for all of Loudoun County schools Tutors who complete at least 5 sessions with their mentee will have the option to participate in “Eagleville” which will allow you to miss up to 14 excused hours of school!!!!!!!!!

11 Signing up to be a tutor is easy!!
1) Go to: TutorMatchingService.com 2) Select “For Tutors” on the homepage 3) Select “Become A Tutor” button 4) At “Select School” screen - type PASTA 5) Create a login using gmail, Facebook or Linkedin. Use this login information every time you come back to the site. 6) Create your Profile by following the prompts.

12 Tips When it asks how much you charge - you must enter $0
Be sure that PASTA appears in your “School or Organization” In your profile description please start by saying what high school you attend then a few hobbies. At the “Badges” section of your application, hit the green button below the PASTA badge to request it. You will see a message that says “Your badge request was registered successfully”. Training is required: training will occur on 3/8/17 at 4PM (During your next NHS Meeting). You will be provided with supplies and tips to make you successful!

Where: Potowmack Elementary School When: 6 days in May - 2:45PM-3:45PM Who: Participants in the Nothing’s ImPASTAble tutoring/mentoring program 4th/5th graders matched up with their high school mentors Market Day: June 1, 2017 Be part of this exciting program – create a store, restaurant or theater – and get it ready for Market Day so all the kids of Potowmack Elementary can visit and shop at your business.
