3 Basic information of area
Remote and mountainous High poverty rate: 48-53% Ethnic minority: 80-90% Livelihood: mainly on agriculture and forest exploitation Cultivated land is small Market operation: only at district

4 Damages Overall: 214/476 communes were affected
Livelihood and nutrition Crops: partly to completely affected: >2600 ha (80%) Paddy field was covered with thick sand: 247 in QC Winter crop time already past for maize Animal lost: 76 cattle + 31,700 poultry; aquaculture Dams and canals broken: 7 dams + several canals Transportation: blocked Shelter & non-food items Collapsed, washed away houses: 50 Damaged houses: 237; flooded houses: 864

5 Damages (continue) Education Health, water and sanitation
Schools/boarding houses for teachers were washed away or damaged Tables, school materials were damaged School closed for 2-5 days, not re-open until 15/10 (Nam Giai) Health, water and sanitation Health clinics were damaged (10/14), 1 totally damaged Several wells were flooded and contaminated (QC): 590 Water system was broken in Nam Giai (15,000 people in QC were out of clean water) Environment pollution: mud, wood, rubbish, waste

10 Recommendations Livelihood and food security
Provide 1-3 months’ food and supplementary to the affected households Cash dispersal to assist most urgent needs over coming months Support for the recovery of damaged field Supplementary support for fertilizers and/or seeds. Support for basic infrastructure recovery

Shelter and non-food items Provide emergent shelters for the affected HHs Ensure compensation reach the affected and adequate for needs. Provide utensils for the washed away HHs Heath, water and sanitation Support with environment sanitation: cloramin, permethrin and mosquito nets

Ensure adequate sources for recovery of commune health stations and facilities Raise awareness on population on health, hygiene.
