2 Vision Statement Making every child’s potential a reality by establishing the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc. (NYS PTA) as the premier association for parent involvement and advocacy for all children. Mission Statement The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

12 FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Have 3 names on signature cards at bank All PTA checks MUST have 2 signatures Never make checks out to cash Never pre-sign any PTA checks Always use vouchers & remittance forms & a ledger Two people to count and verify monies Have bank statements mailed to Treasurer Ensure you do a monthly reconciliation at every board meeting – put this on your agenda!

15 Council President…..Per Your Bylaws:
Article IX Duties of Officers: All Officers Shall: # b. Attend Region training workshops c. Perform the duties outlined in these bylaws and those assigned from time to time. Section 2. The executive committee shall: # b. Appoint delegates to the New York State PTA convention in accordance with the provisions of the bylaws of the New York State PTA, to other state and region meetings and to meetings of other associations as defined in Article IV, e.

16 COUNCIL PRESIDENTS ALWAYS BE PREPARED TO:
REGION BOARD MEETINGS COUNCIL PRESIDENTS ALWAYS BE PREPARED TO: Attend Region board meetings Send your alternate/designee if you can not attend. Report your goals for the the 1st Region board meeting Come prepared to report the “happenings” in your district Vote on the business of this association

17 CHAIRMEN ALWAYS BE PREPARED TO: Attend Region board meetings
Prepare & send your plan of work to the Region Director prior to the 1st region board meeting.. Always forward your report prior to a meeting Be prepared to make a report at meetings Vote on the business of this association Plan of Work Should culminate with an event, program, communication, and area of support for our region councils and PTAS

18 E- Mail Respond as quickly as possible
Always include names, and PTA in the subject heading Notify Region and NYS if your address changes Don’t write anything in an message that you wouldn’t want to see printed in a memo to all Do not discuss sensitive issues in an – remember that can be sent on to anyone without your knowledge Use Bcc when sending s to a group Proofread! DO NOT USE ALL CAPS!!! Use the proper chain of command when corresponding i.e. – Region Director – Associate Director- etc

19 DON’T FORGET!!! COMMUNICATIONS:
MEET IMPORTANT DEADLINES: Form A’s and updating Bylaws Share information directed by the Region, VIA and communicate during your council and/or local PTA meetings Connect within in the chain of command: -Councils * Associate Director or the appropriate Chairman * Region Director -Chairman * Associate Director of Chairman * Region Director When reaching out to your region, or NYS PTA always use your unit or council code Contact your region first for assistance, if needed contact the NYS for additional support Report back to your Council or Local Unit, Region and State Events & meetings

They disburse information from the Region PTA, New York State PTA and National PTA to board members and to the general PTA membership.

22 EVENTS….REGION, STATE, & NATIONAL
Opportunities for: Advocacy, Recognition, Networking, Training, & conducting important PTA Business! Training is the #1success indicator of effective PTA units and councils. Training Opportunities at all levels Regions: Leadership trainings & annual conferences State: Leadership trainings, conventions, & annual conferences National PTA: Conventions & Annual Conferences Professionalism is Key! ALWAYS respond to Evites, Eblasts, Invitations, And register according to DEADLINES!

23 ADVOCACY Become familiar with our “Basic Policy” and “Where We Stand”
Keep in mind the Mission of the PTA is primarily advocacy with issues affecting children and youth Share our advocacy mission to units/councils

24 Attitude is Everything
Attitude is the little thing that makes a BIG difference Attitude is contagious Make sure the attitude you spread is a Positive & Healthy Attitude

25 ONE HUNDRED YEARS from now…
It will not matter what my bank account was… The sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a CHILD!
