Mature markets Emerging markets Employment in the construction industry not attractive in mature markets to young people because Cyclical Low growth Not ”cool” Hard and “dirty”work Dangerous? Not enough skilled labour to meet the demand Insufficient Govt. supported training programmes Lack of knowledge of the opportunities Lack of recognition of construction skills due to poor regulation

Example…One world project, Mumbai India… World largest residential building $340m development Units range from $1.3m to $8.6m - Armani finish The local developers will make $860m from this one project Converted all interior partitions in to drywall ….Lighter, quicker, better performance….3-5 years work on this site alone No local skills. Brought UK/Irish based contractors to India to do the job. Training locals on site. This developer currently has 30M sq meters of floor space to develop – no local skills for drywall system installation.

Investing in modern training programmes & facilities Managing our employer brands Communicating thought new media Making it “cool” to be a part of building something great Recognising the work of the contractor Sharing knowledge, forums etc. Getting it on the agenda in schools. This situation is replicated across the emerging markets and the local workforce are missing these large opportunities…

Providing training, better and faster….currently, S-G have 150 training academies globally… but it’s not enough; In order to accelerate the learning programmes, We have introduced several digital training and information tools Digital newsletters for all Need for speed in developing markets Some learning apps for contractors and installers
