Overview: Life Cycle of a 90 Day Action Plan
Wrap up of Quarter- Review Key Drivers Choose Key Metric for new quarterly focus Develop detailed 90 day action plan to drive results Review 90 Day action plan and Key Driver/ metric with one up 90 day action plans reviewed monthly with one up Facilitator Notes: This high-level timeline shows the rollout of LEM. We are in the process of concluding goal development and the goal audit process and are moving into the action planning and Monthly Meeting activities (which occur after goals are finalized). Looking ahead, we will be populating monthly goal data and monitoring goal progress through the remainder of the year, and year – end evaluations will take place in December. The LEM system is the mid-year and year-end evaluation tool (in lieu of the previous paper-based forms). AND UPDATED!!!!! IF you have met and sustained this result over 2 quarters!!!!

Key Accountability Tools
“...Leaders must be diligent about cutting out the noise to get their organizations focused on what really matters.” HBR’s May 2014 issue entitled The Trouble with Leadership Theories 90-Day Plan Leader creates 90-Day Plan(s) based on priority areas Monthly review of 90-Day Plan(s) during 1:1 meetings Monthly Meeting Model Implement monthly 1:1 meetings between one-over and direct report 1:1 meeting agenda: − Rounding Results − Review Goals Updated 90 Day Plan Based on results through the current quarter Including additions and actions from LDIs and SG visits Facilitator Notes: As the quote from HBR notes, LEM and its associated tools are about creating focus and reducing “noise” that detracts from achievement of our core goals and responsibilities. Today, we will review three key tools: The 90-Day Action Plan, the Monthly Meeting Model, and the Validation Matrix. We’ll start with – and will spend most of our time reviewing - the 90-Day Action Plan tool.

What is the purpose of the 90-Day Action Plan?
Prioritization Tool Provides focus to performance maintenance / improvement efforts Communication Tool Facilitates 2-way dialogue about your goals and the action steps you are taking to achieve them Facilitator Notes: Question to group: What’s the purpose of an action plan? The purpose of action plans is to help leaders prioritize and communicate more effectively. They are living, evolving documents that you will revisit / update throughout the rest of the year. You will leave today with drafts of your 90-Day plans, but you will review them with your one-over leader and incorporate his/her feedback. Prioritization is necessary to provide focus to performance improvement efforts – rather than dozens of action items, the 90-Day action plan will consist of 3-5 action steps for each goal. The 90-Day Action Plan also facilitates 2-way dialogue between you and your one-over leader about the steps that you are taking to achieve your goals (and any obstacles that may require your leader’s support/assistance to resolve them). What are action plans not? They are not checklist items. if at any point you feel this is not a valuable process for you - assess how you are using the tool.

90-Day Action Plan Value/Benefits
For YOU… Identifies interim goals toward achieving the annual goals Breaks down key action steps Allows you to celebrate incremental progress Allows you to house your action plans for all goals – engagement , retention, quality, financial- in one place For your ONE-OVER Leader Helps him/her see what’s “on your plate” Allows him/her to provide direction by identifying the “A” (top) priorities Guides discussion on any resources required, obstacles, or competing priorities Encourages “managing up” opportunities Facilitator Notes: The 90-Day Action Plans benefit both you and your one-over leader. The primary benefit is that the 90-Day plan provides an integrated, centralized platform for documenting improvement efforts. Other benefits of the 90-Day Action Plan for you: You can identify interim goals (to move you toward your annual goals) It helps document key action steps It permits you to celebrate incremental steps / progress It allows you to house all of your action plans in once place. Historically, we have used multiple systems and spreadsheets to document our action plans. For example, many of you are familiar with the ActionPro system that we have used for engagement action planning. This system will provide a platform for all action plans supporting not only engagement, but quality, safety, retention, and other goals, as well. We will no longer use the ActionPro system for engagement action planning, and will assess whether the LEM 90-Day Action Plans can replace some of the other dashboards / reports/action planning platforms that we’re currently using. Your leader also benefits from the 90-Day Action Plan. He/she can see what’s on your plate, and helps him/her provide direction on any resources and support needed to achieve those goals. The 90-Day Action Plan provides an integrated, centralized platform for documenting improvement efforts.
