1 Crest Night Effects The Advertisement Claim:
Crest Night Effects will whiten teeth better than Colgate.

2 Lab Design Independent Variable: My independent variable:
The variable that is planned before carrying out the experiment. It is what the experimenter is testing (or changing/manipulating). It will affect the dependent variable. Graphed on the x axis. My independent variable: The brand used for teeth whitening, Crest or Colgate

3 Lab Design Dependent Variable: My dependent variable:
The variable that is measured during the experiment. The experimenter does not have control over the outcome of the dependent variable. It changes because of the independent variable. Graphed on the y axis My dependent variable: The amount of teeth whitening

4 The effect of Crest Night Effects versus Colgate on teeth whitening
Lab Design Title: Use this format: “The effect of (the independent variable) on (the dependent variable)” My Title: The effect of Crest Night Effects versus Colgate on teeth whitening Hypothesis: Your prediction about the outcome of the experiment. Must be based on prior research or experience. Its not just a guess. My Hypothesis: If Crest Night Effects is used, then teeth will be whiter than if Colgate is used.

5 Lab Design Experimental Groups: My Experimental Groups:
The different ways the independent variable will be tested and compared to each other (there may be only 1 E.G.) My Experimental Groups: Using Crest Night Effects Using Colgate Trials: The number of times each experimental group is tested or how many people will use the product you are testing. A large number of trials will give an average which reduces error # of trials for my Experimental Groups: 500 people will be in each Experimental Group

6 500 people who will not use a teeth whitening product
Lab Design Control: The group that is not changed. The group that is not using the independent variable. This is important because any changes found in the experimental groups can be compared to the control group. My Control: 500 people who will not use a teeth whitening product Or Photographs of the teeth of the 1000 people before they have used the teeth whitening products

7 Lab Design Constants: My Constants: Age of people Used for 14 days
The variables that need to be kept the same for all experimental groups, trials and control groups. That way any differences between groups are only because of the independent variable My Constants: Age of people Used for 14 days Time used (8 pm) No coffee, tea, cigarettes # of times used per day (1 time)
